What you can do
Carry the warehouse decision through the yard handoff
Moving a trailer to a door and changing warehouse stock are different operating facts. Inventory Clerk maintains the stock request, item and location context needed by the warehouse team. Reservations identify held quantities against specific stock lots. Handling units identify the pallets or totes, their current status and custody owner. The yard team can use those records to explain what is waiting to move and which work still needs attention.
Inventory Supervisor owns corrections and cancellation of authorized stock scope. Releasing a reservation restores the held availability associated with that request; it does not establish that a truck unloaded or that an inventory posting occurred. Posted movement evidence provides the basis for the later reconciliation.
How the work is organized
- Retain the request context. Prepare the requested quantity, item and location with the responsible owner and required date. Keep the request reference available when a yard action produces related evidence.
- Inspect the commitments. Review reservations against the intended lot, including their held quantity and expiry. Use the handling unit’s status and custody owner to investigate a physical handoff without treating every staged pallet as loaded.
- Correct authorized scope. Inventory Supervisor reviews a changed quantity or cancellation and releases the affected held reservations through the correction workflow. Preserve the stock movement evidence needed to explain work that has already posted.
What to agree during setup
Agree what each transport partner record means when used as a storage location. Item codes and base units must mean the same thing in the request and the stock evidence. A case quantity and a unit quantity need an agreed conversion at the connection boundary before they can be reconciled.
Choose who reviews a correction and how the team confirms that affected reservations were released. Decide which existing warehouse system owns any upstream stock instruction and how it exchanges evidence with the yard. Walk through a cancellation that occurs while the trailer is still waiting, then one after related stock activity has already posted.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A stock request authorizes 24 units for a load, but the responsible supervisor reduces the scope to 18 before execution. The correction releases the affected held reservation scope. The clerk then checks the remaining request and commitments against the actual goods prepared for the load.
During reconciliation, the posted movements still total 16 units. Inventory Supervisor receives a failed result and investigates the missing evidence; the request remains unchanged by that failed check. The team must resolve the discrepancy before calling the handoff verified. A completed dock visit or a handling unit marked Loaded cannot supply the missing stock movement quantity.
What your team sees
- Open Stock Requests — Requests in Draft, Review or Approved that still need operating attention.
- Held Reservations — Lot commitments requiring release, expiry review or completion follow-up.
- Handling Units Register — Pallets and totes with their custody owner and current operating status.
Follow the work through
Stock correction and cancellation explains the change decision. Operation reconciliation checks the resulting evidence before close.
