What you can do
Keep material movement tied to the run
Material control starts with the component, lot and production work that will consume it. Production Operator prepares an issue with the item, quantity, lot and work order. Post / Reverse Material Issue chooses its action from the issue’s current state and checks the work order and matching inventory balance before posting.
A valid Draft issue becomes Posted and reduces the matching stock balance. A Posted issue can be reversed with the corresponding balance restoration. Production Planner reviews those movements alongside on-hand and reserved stock, while purchasing follow-up provides the supplier context for material expected to arrive.
How the work is organized
- Supply follow-up. Purchase orders link suppliers to item lines with ordered and received quantities. Production Planner and Manager review open commitments and due dates when preparing the next assembly run.
- Stock selection. Inventory balances identify an item, location and lot with on-hand and reserved quantities. The operator checks the selected material against the physical stock before attempting the issue.
- Posting and correction. The issue state determines whether the action posts consumption or reverses a prior posting. A correction includes the stock effect, allowing the planner to reconcile the change against the original production work.
What to agree during setup
Agree how item units and lot numbers appear on physical material and in stock records. Similar components need clear names and codes so the operator can choose the intended item. Establish how the posting action resolves the matching balance, especially when the same lot exists at more than one location.
Decide who follows partial supplier receipts. Ordered and received quantities belong to the purchase line, so the planner should review the line before assuming that an order marked Received represents everything required for a run. Reconcile opening stock and reservations before testing live material consumption.
Agree who may request a reversal and who checks the resulting balance. The operator should identify the posted issue being corrected and explain the intended physical movement to the planner. After an uncertain posting response, check the issue state and stock before pressing the action again. On a Posted issue, that action selects reversal. Review both the issue and stock after a correction.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Prepare a Draft issue for a component lot assigned to an eligible assembly work order. Record the starting stock balance and post the issue. Check the Posted state and compare the balance change with the issued quantity. Ask Production Planner to locate the movement through the work order reference.
Reverse that issue through the same action and confirm the Reversed state and corresponding restoration. Next, prepare an issue whose item and lot cannot resolve to valid stock. The action should refuse posting. Correct the source stock or issue selection through the agreed procedure, then repeat the check. The rehearsal should finish with a balance the planner can explain from the material movements.
What your team sees
- Draft Material Issues — Prepared consumption awaiting the posting checks.
- Posted Material Issues — Posted movements that can be reviewed before a correction.
- Available Stock — Positive on-hand balances with lot, location and reserved quantity visible.
