Blood Centers

A blood center needs to connect the person arriving for donation with the collection owner and the evidence produced during the visit. Blood Donation Management gives the Clinical Coordinator a donor and collection record to organize that work. The Licensed Clinician records the associated blood units and laboratory entries, while the Clinical Reviewer examines the evidence before the collection is completed.

How Blood Donation Management is set up for you

Returning donors

Use the donor code and identifying details to locate the existing record. Review the current consent position and signed documents before scheduling the next visit.

Collection handoffs

Keep the scheduled date separate from the actual collection interval. A named owner helps the receiving person resolve a question about a visit already underway.

Unit progress

Review Collected, Received, Tested and Rejected records by donation. The unit record number gives staff a practical starting point when checking a handoff.

Review responsibility

The Clinical Reviewer makes the decision, the Licensed Clinician records it and the Clinical Coordinator maintains the collection outcome. Agree that communication before the pilot.

Begin with a regular collection session and a familiar returning donor cohort. Prepare the donor identities, consent documents and collection owners before scheduling work. Rehearse a normal collection through review, then repeat with an unresolved laboratory question that needs follow-up. The receiving team should be able to locate the donation from the unit record and explain who owns the next action.

Use the [collection process](/blood-donation-management/processes/donor-intake-and-collection) and [unit processing process](/blood-donation-management/processes/unit-processing-and-testing) together. Agree any laboratory connection during setup and keep clinical interpretation with the authorized clinical team. Expand the working scope after the team can explain a completed case and an outstanding case from their records.
