What you can do
Start with the operating record
A catalog manager prepares a seasonal product range. Each product has a handle and title, each saleable variant has its own SKU and price, and the catalog carries a currency and locale. Collections group products for the shopping experience. Start at the catalog code and confirm the catalog is Live. Open the product by handle, check its Active status, and use the variant SKU to settle price questions. A collection groups products, but the variant carries the price that staff should compare with a cart item.
How the work is organized
- Catalog identity. Match each product to its catalog before updating copy, category, or price.
- Variant choice. Check the SKU, options, active flag, and price on the variant a shopper selected.
- Publication decision. Merchant Owner checks catalog status after Catalog Manager has checked the product and collection records.
What to agree during setup
The manager checks that the correct variant belongs to the intended product and that the product belongs to the intended catalog. The owner reviews the catalog status before a new range is used for orders. Agree which catalog owns each product, who changes variant prices, and who checks a catalog before its status becomes Live. Test a product with two variants so staff can distinguish the product title from the chosen SKU. Confirm that the collection and category links lead to the intended product. When a price changes, keep an earlier order line intact so service staff can still explain what that shopper paid.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A shopper asks why a variant price differs from the featured product. The manager opens the product, identifies its variant SKU and price, then checks the catalog and collection placement. The owner checks whether the catalog is Live and whether the product is Active. The team records the corrected listing in the product records before accepting further orders. Ask the next role to find the same case from its linked record and explain the current decision. Keep the order number or catalog code visible in the handoff so a change is applied to the intended transaction.
Repeat the check with a second case whose status or linked record differs. Have the responsible role explain the correction and confirm that the next person can see the result in the same records.
