What you can do
Keep arrival work and stock custody visible
Inventory Clerk maintains a load with its carrier, dock door and seal details. Sequenced stops identify the location and appointment for that load. These records help the team prepare for arrivals and follow work through the dock while Inventory Supervisor reviews exceptions such as a missed appointment or incomplete arrival information.
Handling units give the team a separate record of the pallet, tote or other identified unit holding an item. The license plate, quantity and custody owner support a practical floor review. A staged unit and a held unit represent different operating conditions, so the team should record the state that describes the work actually in progress.
How the work is organized
- Load preparation. Inventory Clerk enters the carrier and expected load context, then maintains dock and seal details as the work progresses. The load’s state helps the next shift understand whether it is scheduled, unloading or ready for departure.
- Stop coordination. Each stop carries its sequence and appointment at a storage location. A Missed state keeps an unfulfilled appointment visible for follow-up rather than leaving the team to infer progress from the load alone.
- Custody review. Handling unit records identify the item, location and person or party responsible for custody. Inventory Clerk updates the unit’s state when it is staged, loaded, held or damaged under the team’s operating procedure.
What to agree during setup
Agree how load numbers and license plates are assigned and recognized on the floor. Confirm the meaning of the custody owner entry and the person responsible for updating it during a shift handoff. Use the same storage location codes in dock work and lot review so the team can discuss the physical location consistently.
Decide how the team associates load work with the relevant stock requests during its operating review. Stock movement evidence remains part of the authorized request process. If load or appointment details come from a carrier system, configure that connection and verify the identifiers before using it for ongoing coordination. Rehearse a missed stop as well as an ordinary arrival.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Prepare a scheduled inbound load with a confirmed stop at a cold-storage location. When the carrier arrives, Inventory Clerk records the arrival and checks the dock and seal details. Compare the stop’s current state with the work at the dock. If the appointment was missed, retain that outcome so Inventory Supervisor can follow up on the interrupted plan.
Now inspect a handling unit staged in the receiving area. Confirm its license plate, item, quantity and custody owner against the physical unit. Mark a damaged unit according to the operating procedure and review the affected stock action separately. The handoff is ready when the next person can identify the unit and its custodian and can locate the stock evidence without assuming that a logistics state alone proves a posted inventory effect.
What your team sees
- Loads Board — Review active load states with carrier, dock and seal context.
- Load Stops Schedule — Follow appointment dates and stop sequence for planned and unfinished dock work.
- Handling Units Register — Locate physical units with their quantity, custody owner and operating state.
Follow the work through
Follow Load and custody handoff, then use Execution to verified completion for the separate stock evidence review.
