What you can do

Describe the offer on the deal

A proposal starts with the opportunity the Account Owner is discussing with a school or family. Opportunity lines give that discussion a priced scope: item name, quantity and unit price, with an optional discount and linked product. Products hold the reusable name, SKU, list price and category for the organization. A team can use them for a tutoring package or service so the same offer is described consistently across deals. The opportunity still carries the expected value that the Sales Lead reviews in the pipeline.

The Submit Proposal workflow records an email activity, moves a qualified opportunity to Proposal and writes an operation receipt. That matters because the proposed price and the act of sending it are different facts. The Account Owner should check the lines and intended recipient, send the offer through the agreed channel, then run the workflow to log the activity. A linked primary contact identifies the intended recipient and who still needs to respond.

How the work is organized

  • Keep a service list. Maintain active products with a recognizable name, SKU and list price.
  • Price the deal. Add opportunity lines with the item, quantity and unit price agreed for this proposal.
  • Record the communication. Submit the proposal so the opportunity stage, email activity and receipt tell the same story.

What to agree during setup

Agree how to name a tutoring package and when to use a reusable product rather than a line entered for one deal. The product categories include Core Product, Service and Training among the available values. Decide which category means tutoring in your organization. Decide who reviews a discount before it appears on a line; the line records a discount percentage, and the Sales Lead needs a local pricing rule for using it. The account owner should also know when a revised offer requires a fresh conversation with the customer.

Use a real school example to settle the unit of quantity. A line for a block of sessions has a different meaning from a line for one learner. The item name and quantity should make that meaning legible to the person reviewing the opportunity. Check that unit price and expected deal value are in agreement before discussing the pipeline. The record stores both, so a misleading mismatch would confuse the team even if each field is individually filled.

Check the handoff on an actual case

A school wants support for an exam preparation group. The Account Owner selects the school opportunity, adds a tutoring service line and records the quantity and unit price discussed. The primary contact is the coordinator who asked for the offer. After reviewing the scope with the Sales Lead, the owner sends the offer through the agreed channel and runs proposal submission to log the email activity. In the next pipeline review, the opportunity is at Proposal, the email activity is attached to the deal and the operation receipt records the submission. The owner can then plan a dated follow-up instead of treating a sent proposal as a closed sale.
