What you can do

Give the dock work an authorized scope

Inventory Clerk prepares a stock request with a number and subject that explain the work. The item, base unit and requested quantity establish the inventory scope, while location references identify the operating context. A named owner and required-by date help the team decide which request needs attention during the dock cycle.

Inventory Supervisor records a decision against the source revision and retains a reason. Approval authorizes the eligible scope for execution. Rejected, Returned and Escalated decisions explain work that needs another response before it proceeds. Supporting documents remain attached to the request so a later reviewer can understand what the clerk was asked to do.

How the work is organized

  • Preparation. The clerk creates a Draft request and checks the item, location and quantity against the operating paperwork. The subject should make the intended receive, move or issue work recognizable.
  • Review decision. The supervisor records the decision and reason against the current source revision. Stale revisions and requests already Executed or Cancelled are refused by the decision action.
  • Follow-through. Approved work proceeds through the supported stock action. Movements and receipts remain linked to the request so the team can compare the actual effect with the authorized quantity.

What to agree during setup

Agree how the location and counterparty references are interpreted by each stock action you intend to use. Keep the item’s base unit visible when preparing quantities from a manifest or other source document. Resolve packs, cases or other source units before presenting the request for a decision.

Set a clear review routine for time-sensitive dock work. Name the person who will answer a returned decision and the supervisor who handles an escalation. The reason should explain the specific issue instead of requiring the next shift to reconstruct a conversation. Agree how the applicable channel policy informs the decision and how staff retain the supporting document link.

Check the handoff on an actual case

For a rehearsal, prepare a request for stock needed during an outbound loading cycle. Enter the item and base-unit quantity, select the agreed locations and attach the manifest or instruction used by the team. Ask the Inventory Supervisor to explain the scope from the saved request before making a decision.

Have the supervisor return it for a quantity clarification. Correct the request through the supported procedure and obtain a decision on the current revision. Try an old review request after the quantity changes and confirm that it is refused. Once approved, execute the work and inspect the linked stock movement and receipt. The authorized quantity should remain explainable from the decision even when the dock’s physical activity has moved on.

What your team sees

  • Open Stock Requests — Draft, review and approved stock work with its quantity and required date.
  • Draft Request Review — Prepared scope for the supervisor to examine before deciding an eligible request.
  • Returned and Escalated Decisions — Review reasons requiring a clear operational response.
