Systems to connect
- Laboratory service. Configure a connection or manual handoff that correlates incoming information with lab cases.lab case number and Appointment. Agree where result documents and rejection explanations are retained, and share them with the treating clinician.
- Prescription or pharmacy service. Set up any electronic prescribing or pharmacy delivery separately. Prescription dispensations records medication, lot and quantity with an authorizing person; the pharmacy service owns transmission and delivery confirmation.
- Billing and accounting system. Agree where invoices, payment allocation and accounting entries are owned. Procedure charges and Payments record separate local amounts. Map external documents and receipt references without presenting a local Invoiced label as a posted accounting transaction.
- Patient communication service. Configure reminders only after agreeing recipients, content and delivery evidence. Use the patient phone and task due date when mapping recipients and timing; retain delivery confirmation with the communication service.
- Identity administration. Agree how Users and People are provisioned and how access changes are applied. After a care assignment ends, check account access against the practice’s policy.
- Imaging and insurance systems. Retain imaging, claims and detailed treatment planning in separately agreed systems where required. Agree each handoff and its responsible owner during setup.
How connections are governed
Each connection is a setup project with a named owner, source identifiers and explicit field mapping. Confirm the provider’s available interface and commercial access before promising delivery. Keep credentials in the approved secret store. Reconcile a repeated event and an unknown reference before enabling scheduled imports.
Agree how to record external acceptance and unresolved delivery outcomes. Keep connector acceptance and error evidence in the connecting service so staff can reconcile updates. Test whether a timeout left the external action accepted before retrying it. Reconcile the source and destination records with the responsible practice staff.
Plan the implementation and review record boundaries before enabling a connection.
