What you can do
Know when an offer was put forward
Proposal submission is a tracked sales action on an opportunity. The workflow logs an email activity, moves the opportunity to Proposal and writes an operation receipt. The opportunity remains the place for expected value, close date, next step and item lines. The customer and contact links show who the deal concerns. Together, these records help a Sales Manager review whether a proposal stage corresponds to a real outbound conversation.
The item lines describe the products, quantities and unit prices being discussed. The customer-facing proposal follows the team’s agreed document process. A representative should check them before the submission action and keep the customer-facing offer in the team’s agreed document process. A document or link can be attached to the opportunity for reference, with a title and kind, if the team uses record attachments for that evidence.
How the work is organized
- Offer context. Opportunity lines describe the products and offered quantities behind the customer’s decision.
- Submission action. The workflow records an email activity, advances the opportunity stage and creates a receipt for the operation.
- Supporting material. A record attachment can hold the reference link or document associated with the deal, without changing its stage.
What to agree during setup
Define what the team means by a submitted proposal. Agree who checks the item lines and expected value, who sends the customer document and how its link is stored. Use a clear activity subject so a manager can distinguish proposal email from ordinary correspondence. If the proposal changes, record the new customer contact and update the working line details; record a new customer communication for the later version.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A customer is considering a core product with a training service. The Sales Representative opens the qualified opportunity, checks each line’s quantity and offered price, confirms the account and primary contact, and sends the proposal through the agreed channel. The representative then runs proposal submission. The opportunity moves to Proposal, an email activity appears and an operation receipt records the action. The manager can open those records to understand the stage change before asking what response is expected next.
If the buyer requests another price, the representative updates the relevant line and schedules a follow-up call. The prior email activity still describes the earlier submission. The owner should make the next step clear and record any later communication so the pipeline stage remains understandable. Expected value is reviewed against the current discussion; it should not be read as a completed transaction.
What your team sees
- Proposals in Progress — The owner reviews proposal-stage deals, account, close date and next step.
- Open Relationship Activities — The manager follows customer responses and unresolved proposal tasks.
Follow the work through
