What you can do
Explain the output with its source operation
A work order gives the floor its product, ordered quantity, bill of materials and routing. Component lines record required and issued material. Operation records carry the sequence and assigned Operator. Production reporting captures start and end times, good output and scrap against the work order and work center. Shop Floor Supervisor uses those records to explain where work stopped and what accepted output remains eligible for receipt into finished inventory.
How the work is organized
Production Overview shows the operating picture for work order exceptions with blocker reason, late quantity by work center and weekly good output. Use it to find the case to investigate, then check the source order, operation and production interval. Reporting a good quantity at an intermediate operation does not by itself establish a finished unit.
- Issue permitted material. Material issues to work in progress must identify the intended product, warehouse and work order through the agreed action.
- Record the worked interval. Each production interval identifies the Operator, work center and operation number alongside time and quantity evidence. Keep scrap separate from good output.
- Receive accepted output once. The completion action uses previously unreceived good output from the terminal operation and refuses to repeat the same inventory effect.
What to agree during setup
Agree how Shop Floor Supervisor records the worked interval and how Operator handles material movements. Make the terminal operation clear to both people before the shift begins. Confirm the required quality release and how an interrupted reporting session is resumed. Set up scanners or machine counters as connections with an agreed unit and operator identity. Rehearse the same recorded output twice so the team can check the returned result without receiving it again.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A work order issues a lot-controlled component to assembly. The stock-handling actor selects an Available lot of the same product that has not expired. The issue action checks quantity on hand less allocated quantity before updating quantity issued. If the selected lot is on hold or the free quantity is too small, the command must fail without leaving a partial issue behind.
The supervisor then records a completed production reporting interval at the terminal operation. Quality Inspector checks any required final inspection and resolves relevant holds. The completion command receives the eligible good output and updates the work order’s completed quantity. Replay that command after a connection interruption: the same completion effect must be returned. A log from an earlier operation or an unfinished interval must not receive another finished quantity. Compare the order, inventory movement and accounting references before closing the case.
What your team sees
- Shop Floor Output — Production intervals ending by today with good and scrapped quantities and their source operation.
- Open Work Orders — Planned, Released and in progress orders with ordered, completed and scrapped quantities.
- Production Schedule — Operation assignments and their planned start and end dates.
Follow the work through
Demand to finished parts follows release and completion. Inspection to quality release explains the hold decision. Confirm daily duties in roles.
What it keeps track of
Data model- Work orders
- Shop-floor orders to produce a specific product in a specific quantity.
- Work order components
- Exploded BOM demand for a work order - what raw material is needed and from where.
- Work order operations
- Exploded routing steps for a work order - what runs where, in what sequence.
- Production log
- Shop-floor time/qty transactions against a work-order operation.
- Stock movements
- Every physical movement of stock - receipt, issue to WIP, completion, transfer, scrap.
- Operators
- A shop-floor operator: the employee, the work centre they run, their shift and how they report time and quantity.
Who uses it
Permissions- Shop Floor Supervisor
- , Operator, Production Planner, Quality Inspector.
- Shop Floor Supervisor
- Manages production reporting and assignments; Operator performs permitted stock handling.
- Production Planner
- Controls work order planning.
- Quality Inspector
- Owns inspection evidence and release of held material.
