Assembly and kitting
Assembly and kitting gives the team one place to follow the kit work from its source decision to the next handoff. A distributor combines stocked components into a saleable dining set. Warehouse Manager selects an active bill of materials, routing, output product and standard cost. The work order names its planned quantity and warehouse before release. Warehouse Manager releases the work order against active recipe, routing, output and cost versions. Warehouse Operator records material issue, operation results and output; Warehouse Manager reviews residual variance at close.

What you can do
How the work is organized
- Preparation. The owner checks entity, source document and current revision before submitting work.
- Decision. Warehouse Manager checks the recipe, planned quantity and standard before approving release. Warehouse Operator records actual work; Warehouse Manager reviews completion and residual variance.
- Execution. Record the actual quantity or amount against the approved source; retain partial results and linked corrections.
What to agree during setup
Agree the output basis for each recipe, allowed material loss, operation instructions, standard cost and production owner. Keep new recipe versions separate from work already released. Test a partial result and a changed document before the team relies on this handoff. Keep the approved revision beside the actual result so the next owner can see what remains.
Assign preparation and approval to different people where the decision controls value or stock. Check entity and warehouse scope with each role; finance keeps bank and valuation details within its own access.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Release a work order against the chosen versions. Warehouse Operator records actual material use, good output, scrap and labor evidence. Compare output with planned quantity and review any residual cost or quantity variance before closing. Have the receiving owner compare the approved scope with actual quantity and unresolved work. Keep the prior decision visible when a case stops or changes.
Retry an already recorded event and check that it does not create a second stock or financial effect. Trace the correction to the original document and explain the remaining quantity to the next owner.
What your team sees
- Production Schedule — Released work orders with planned start and end dates and current progress.
- Warehouse Availability — Components available for the next bounded work order.
Follow the work through
Follow the order to delivery and supply and stock processes to see how this work crosses teams. Use implementation to rehearse the handoff.
What it keeps track of
Data model- Bill of materials
- Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
- BOM components
- Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
- Routings
- Versioned assembly/repacking instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
- Work orders
- Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
- Work order components
- Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
- Work order operations
- Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
- Production log
- Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
- Cost standards
- Entity/product standard per base unit with immutable effective versions.
- Products
- Trade goods and assembly outputs; master values do not rewrite transactions.
Who uses it
Permissions- Warehouse Manager
- Releases and closes bounded work.
- Warehouse Operator
- Records material, operation and output evidence.
- Finance Manager
- Reviews value exceptions that need financial authority.
- Admin
- Maintains access without taking business approval authority.
