What you can do

Follow demand into accepted output

Sales orders and forecasts provide demand context for master schedule and planned orders. The work order carries the product, ordered quantity, planned interval and the bill and route selected for production. Production Planner reviews material requirements and shortage ownership before release. On the floor, the operation record gives each operation its planned interval, work center and assigned Operator. The production log captures the actual interval and good or scrapped quantity, allowing the team to examine output against the production record that generated it.

How the work is organized

  • Planning proposals. Each planned order distinguishes Work from Purchase demand and retains the demand type and source reference, with release and need dates. Review Proposed suggestions before releasing them. The MRP exception list makes Shortage, Expedite, de-expedite, Cancel and past due work visible to its assigned owner.
  • Assigned operations. Track operations as Pending, in progress, Completed or on hold. Planned start and planned end provide the schedule; actual start and actual end describe execution where recorded. Agree how employee references resolve to the signed-in Operator for an assigned-work filter.
  • Accepted completion. The production log separates good quantity from scrapped quantity and retains start time and end time. The completion command must consume previously unreceived accepted output from the terminal operation. Reporting intermediate throughput must not receive the same material into finished inventory.

What to agree during setup

Define the planning horizon, approved sales-order intake and the warehouse used for finished demand. The demand workflow requires positive quantities and refuses repeated demand creation for the same order. Agree how free inventory and open supply contribute to net requirements, then verify the MRP result against a bounded case before scheduling it. Shop Floor Supervisor and Quality Inspector also agree which operation checks and holds must be resolved before accepted output may be completed.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Start with an Approved sales order and its sales order lines, then follow the demand into master schedule. Production Planner reviews Proposed planned orders and the linked shortage evidence before releasing a work-order record. Inspect work order components against the bill and work order operations against the selected route. A second intake of the same order must not create additional demand.

On the floor, report good quantity at an intermediate operation and again at the terminal operation. Rehearse a partial accepted completion and resend the same command. Only the previously unreceived terminal output should produce a completion stock movement and update quantity completed. A log interval with end time before start time must be refused. Repeat the exercise with a quality hold: the material cannot complete while its required disposition remains unresolved. These checks establish the handoff between production reporting, quality authority and inventory receipt.

What your team sees

  • Production schedule — Follow planned operation intervals and work waiting on hold.
  • My assigned operations — Review operations linked to the mapped employee identity.

Follow the work through

Follow demand to accepted output, then review the batch. Check roles to agree who performs and records each operation.

What it keeps track of

Data model
Sales orders
Customer orders driving finished-goods demand.
Sales order lines
Line items of a Sales Order.
Forecasts
Forecast demand by item and period, entered or imported, consumed by actual orders as they arrive.
Master schedule
The master production schedule: what finished goods will be built, in what quantity, in which period, at which plant, inside its time fences.
Planned orders
A proposal from the MRP run: a planned work order or planned purchase, pegged to the demand that caused it.
MRP exceptions
The action list from the planning run: expedite, de-expedite, cancel, past due and the shortage list, sorted by need date.
Work orders
Shop-floor orders to produce a specific product in a specific quantity.
Work order components
Exploded BOM demand for a work order - what raw material is needed and from where.
Work order operations
Exploded routing steps for a work order - what runs where, in what sequence.
Production log
Shop-floor time/qty transactions against a work-order operation.
Work centers
Machines, cells, and assembly stations where operations are performed.
Calendars
Working calendars for the plant and its work centres: working days, hours per day, holidays and planned downtime the planning run respects.
Shifts
A shift on a calendar: when it starts and ends, and the work centre it runs at.
Operators
A shop-floor operator: the employee, the work centre they run, their shift and how they report time and quantity.
Stock movements
Every physical movement of stock - receipt, issue to WIP, completion, transfer, scrap.

Who uses it

Permissions
