What you can do

Explain which production work used the energy

A factory meter can serve several production activities during the same operating period. Cost Analyst records the energy attributed to a work order reference, together with the meter and the actual allocation start and end. The allocation method explains how the analyst arrived at the quantity and gives Energy Manager a basis for reviewing coverage.

Keep the work order reference consistent with the identifier used by the production team. The energy review needs a recognizable reference when someone asks why a run received a particular share of consumption. Production order details can come from a connection set up with the system that owns those orders.

How the work is organized

  • Production reference. Cost Analyst identifies the work order and the supplying meter. The reference should point the production team to the intended run without requiring a separate interpretation of local abbreviations.
  • Actual allocation period. The analyst records the start and end represented by the allocation. Validation checks protect that period and reject reversed boundaries or negative energy quantities.
  • Allocation explanation. The recorded method accompanies the attributed energy. Energy Manager compares valid allocations with consumption over compatible periods and follows up where the comparison needs further explanation.

What to agree during setup

Agree which production identifier will be used and who can create or correct allocations. Define the methods that Cost Analyst may describe and the evidence expected for each method. The team should know whether a quantity came from a dedicated meter observation or a documented division of a shared meter’s consumption.

Agree how comparisons handle partial periods. A work order running for part of a day should be assessed against a compatible portion of consumption. Decide how the team explains energy that remains outside a production allocation, such as consumption during an operating interruption. The review should preserve the actual record boundaries while the analyst resolves the reason for a difference.

Check the handoff on an actual case

For a rehearsal, use accepted consumption of 1,200 kWh for a shared meter over a defined shift. Cost Analyst records 600 kWh against a sample work order reference WO-104 and 500 kWh against WO-105, keeping each run’s actual period and allocation method. Energy Manager compares their combined 1,100 kWh with the shift consumption and asks the analyst to explain the remaining 100 kWh. Check the operating evidence before assigning a reason or changing either allocation.

Next, reverse WO-105’s allocation start and end during the rehearsal. Confirm that validation rejects it with a useful reason. Restore the actual period and revalidate the record. Ask the production team to identify the intended work order from its reference. The analyst must explain the restored quantity and method without changing the operating window merely to make the comparison balance.

What your team sees

  • Allocation Review — Compare attributed energy by work order reference, meter and actual period.
  • Allocation Exceptions — Resolve rejected allocations using their validation notes.
  • Validated Consumption — Check the meter quantities used in a comparable-period review.

Follow the work through

Use Consumption to production cost for the operating review. The data model explains the meter links and production reference.
