- Who it's for
- General contractors
General contractors
A general contractor can use a business unit for an operating group and keep each assessment tied to a defined period and counterparty. The Compliance Manager can review site checks from inspectors while Assessment Owners plan control tests for the work under review. This makes it easier to distinguish a permit observation from the later control test and from the correction it may require.
How Construction GRC is set up for you
Site inspections
Record the inspected site, permit reference and open safety issues before review.
Control coverage
Choose controls tied to business-unit risks for each assessment period.
Correction ownership
Assign findings to action owners and reserve closure for independent reviewers.
Begin with one organization, one business unit and one site. Choose a current assessment period and controls that can be tested with evidence. Rehearse a submitted site check, a failed test and a corrective action. The pilot should show who records each stage and which evidence reaches the person making the next decision.
For a general contractor, keep the inspected site distinct from the business unit being assessed. The Site Inspector can record an open safety issue on the visit while the Assessment Owner tests a control for the operating unit. The manager should be able to follow both records without treating the site check as the control test.
When the pilot reaches a failed result, record the correction owner and due date. Ask a different person to perform the retest. A passing result can close the finding; a failed or inconclusive result keeps it in follow-up. This is the clearest way to check that the team understands the boundary between doing the correction and verifying it.
Use [implementation](/grc-for-construction/implementation) to plan the rollout and [the data model](/grc-for-construction/data-model) to check the relationships before importing records. Review [roles](/grc-for-construction/roles) with the people who will inspect, test, correct and retest.
