What you can do

Time and leave in daily work

Employees record hours as dated entries under a weekly timesheet. A submitted timesheet carries the employee, week and approver, so the manager can decide those hours. Leave requests cover a start and end date, leave type and employee. HR Manager can compare the request with the leave balance before approving or rejecting it.

A payroll period can overlap a timesheet week or an approved leave period. The people preparing pay need to check dates and employee identity directly. A timesheet status alone does not explain a leave decision, so each request keeps its own outcome.

How the work is organized

  • Time. Employee adds daily hours and category to the correct weekly timesheet.
  • Leave. Employee submits dated time off under a leave type; HR Manager checks the linked balance.
  • Decision. The named approver records the time or leave outcome before Payroll Specialist uses the period.

What to agree during setup

Agree when employees submit time and who acts as approver. Decide which leave types apply by country and employee class. Check the balance date before comparing available leave with a new request. Set the payroll cutoff and the process for correcting rejected hours.

Rehearse a request that spans two workweeks. Confirm both dates, the leave type and the manager assigned to decide it. Submit a timesheet with a mistaken daily entry; the approver should reject it and the employee should correct that week’s record.

Check the handoff on an actual case

An employee records regular and overtime hours for a busy weekend. The manager checks each dated entry under the submitted timesheet and rejects a day with duplicate hours. The employee corrects the entry and submits the same week again. Separately, the employee requests leave for the following week; HR Manager checks the leave type and balance before deciding.

Payroll Specialist reviews the approved timesheet and leave dates against the run period. If the employee belongs to a different payroll calendar, use that calendar’s cutoff. Keep rejected and corrected outcomes visible so the pay review can explain why the accepted hours changed.
