What you can do
Give the inspector a defined piece of work
An inspection identifies the subject, its type and the person responsible for examining it. Inspector works from the planned date and linked requirements, records what was observed and submits the completed work for review. Quality Approver then decides whether the evidence supports acceptance.
Incoming, in-process, final and service inspections distinguish the examination context. A final carton inspection may examine the finished print, while an incoming inspection examines supplied packaging. Keep the subject reference precise enough that someone reviewing the record later can identify what was actually inspected.
How the work is organized
- Assignment. Each inspection belongs to a named person linked to their user account. The conduct-inspection action checks that identity and the assignment before accepting submitted work.
- Requirement evidence. Each linked requirement carries its observation, attachment and result. Pass, Fail and not applicable remain separate, so an excluded requirement cannot silently look like a successful test.
- Disposition. The inspection progresses from Planned through in progress to Review. Quality Approver examines the evidence and records Accepted or Rejected according to the applicable requirements.
What to agree during setup
Agree how the subject reference maps to the packaging job or production run. Where that identity comes from another system, define the connection and reconciliation process. Choose the inspection type and the requirement set before the Inspector starts so the handoff is clear.
Quality Approver defines which checks are required and when a not applicable result is legitimate. The team should agree evidence expectations for each requirement and how to correct a stale or conflicting submission. Use the scheduled date to prepare the inspection workload. Record the completion date when the examination finishes so Quality Approver can follow the timing of the submitted work.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Plan a final inspection for a carton carrying a revised ingredient statement. The assigned Inspector opens the inspection, confirms the subject and completes every linked check. Record the observed text and attach the evidence used for the result. Submit the work and have Quality Approver review the same requirements from Inspection Review.
Rehearse a failed required check. Acceptance must remain blocked. If Quality Approver rejects the inspection, follow the resulting nonconformance and containment action. Retry that rejection submission and confirm that the team sees the original nonconformance and containment action without creating duplicates.
Also try a submission from someone who is not the assigned Inspector and a submission based on an outdated revision. Those cases test whether the right person is acting on the right work. An inspection decision only becomes useful when its evidence and identity remain trustworthy through the handoff.
What your team sees
- Inspection Workload — Planned inspections, work in progress and completed submissions awaiting review.
- My Inspections — The signed-in Inspector’s assigned work with planned and completion dates.
- Inspection Review — Inspections waiting for Quality Approver to decide disposition.
Follow the work through
Follow inspection and disposition, then use correction and effectiveness when rejection requires corrective work.
