What you can do
Keep the correction tied to the rejected work
When Quality Approver rejects an inspection, the disposition process creates a linked nonconformance and a containment corrective action. The next person can follow the quality issue back to the inspection instead of reconstructing the reason from a separate message.
A wrong allergen statement is a useful rehearsal case. The immediate concern is containing the affected work. The later concern is understanding why the statement was wrong and whether the corrective action prevents the same failure. These questions need their own evidence and a named person responsible for the action.
How the work is organized
- Issue context. Record the description and severity against the inspection. Open, Containment, Investigation and Disposition show where the team is in resolving the nonconformance.
- Owned correction. Corrective Action Owner records root cause, the action and its due date. The action progresses through the agreed plan approval into Implementing before it is submitted for effectiveness review.
- Independent verification. Quality Approver reviews effectiveness independently of the person completing the action. Successful verification permits closure; failed verification returns the action to Implementing and retains the prior review history.
What to agree during setup
Agree who can act as the independent reviewer for each kind of correction. A different role label on the same person does not provide independent review. Assign coverage for absences so a completed correction does not wait indefinitely for a qualified reviewer.
Define what evidence will show effectiveness before work begins. Replacing the incorrect attachment may address the immediate error, while checking the revised preparation procedure may address its cause. Choose the evidence appropriate to the action. Agree how the team uses severity, due dates and the distinction between performing work and verifying its result.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Reject an inspection because the printed allergen statement differs from the reviewed artwork. Follow the linked nonconformance and containment action. Corrective Action Owner investigates the cause, records the correction and submits the completed work for effectiveness review. Quality Approver examines the evidence and either accepts the correction or returns it for more work.
Give the same nonconformance another corrective action that remains open. Closing the first action must not close the parent issue while the other action is unfinished. After every linked action is accepted and closed, confirm the parent can close through the corrective workflow.
Finally, reject an effectiveness submission and resubmit corrected work. The earlier review should remain understandable. This is how the team explains why a correction needed another attempt, rather than presenting the final closure date as though the first attempt had succeeded.
What your team sees
- Nonconformance Board — Open issues grouped by their containment and investigation state.
- My Corrective Actions — Assigned corrective work with due dates, root cause and completion progress.
- Effectiveness Review — Corrections waiting for an independent decision.
Follow the work through
Use correction and effectiveness for the review loop and inspection and disposition for the originating rejection.
