What you can do
Operations overview in practice
Operations Overview is the daily starting page for accounting-document work. It ranks attention by recorded exceptions. The Accounting Preparer can move from the overview to the underlying document and supply missing support; the Finance Lead can move to an unresolved operation or reconciliation item. The page should be read alongside the records that support its signals, because a document’s status and an operation’s result can differ.
A pending receipt says that a requested operation has no verified completion yet. Needs review records a discrepancy to investigate. A reconciliation exception identifies a provider movement that does not meet the matching rule. These are distinct queues with different owners. The reviewer focuses on a frozen revision and its evidence. The auditor follows the record trail after a decision or financial effect has been recorded.
How the work is organized
- Document work. The preparer opens the source document behind a draft or review item.
- Unresolved effects. The reviewer checks a pending receipt against its recorded references.
- Account exceptions. The Finance Lead investigates a provider movement that did not match.
What to agree during setup
Agree who checks the overview each day and who owns a pending operation versus a reconciliation exception. Define escalation when an external reference exists but the local effect is absent. Keep the operations list linked to the source document; a headline alone should never authorize a status change. Rehearse access for preparers, reviewers, administrators and auditors separately.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Start with a draft document, an operation receipt awaiting verification and a reconciliation item with a wrong amount. Ask each role to identify its next action from the overview and then open the source record. Verify the preparer can amend the draft, the reviewer can decide only an eligible revision, and the auditor can read without writing. Resolve the operation only after its effect reference is found and leave the mismatched movement open for investigation.
The handoff should show who made each decision and which record changed. Ask a preparer and reviewer to repeat the case from their own access. Confirm the auditor can reconstruct the sequence without changing the source records. If a provider result is involved, compare the external reference and persisted effect before closing the case.
What your team sees
