How a Material Requirement Planning rollout works
Pilot a planning horizon with demand and incoming supply the operating team can reconcile.
Agree the operating boundary
Production Planner chooses the customer demand, stock source and supply commitments for the pilot. Name the warehouse, engineering and supplier communication owners and agree the connection handoffs.
Prepare identities and references
Link staff to user accounts before preparing personal screens. Load item units, customer and supplier identities and resources, then reconcile customer and purchasing documents with their item lines. Check active production and batch evidence separately.
Configure decisions and screens
Review Production Planner, Production Operator and Quality Reviewer access. Configure Manager's approval responsibilities and Admin's setup access. Prepare the planning views and reports, then rehearse each decision with ordinary accounts.
Rehearse planning and release
Use approved demand inside and beyond the horizon, reserved stock and partly received purchases. Repeat planning with suggestions marked Proposed or Firmed. Release eligible Draft production and repeat the identical operation to inspect its retained release evidence.
Reconcile the first cycle
Check demand quantities, stock and incoming purchases with their owners. Investigate unresolved exceptions and review a Held batch alongside operating logs. Expand the scope after the team can explain the quantities and dates used by the plan.
What the customer provides
- Item identities and units, with current customer quantities and required dates.
- Warehouse balances and reservations with an agreed source cutoff.
- Supplier commitments, received quantities and current due dates.
- Active work orders and resource information, with operating and batch evidence.
- Staff accounts and the people responsible for approval and setup decisions.
- Engineering and lead-time evidence for the requirements being reviewed.
Changing it afterwards
Use Proto to prepare a configuration change and review its effect with the operating owners. Repeat the approved-demand and repeated-suggestion cases after changing planning behavior. Recheck personal screens when staff account mappings change. Preserve existing release evidence and rehearse the guarded action after a release-path change.
Start with the first operating cycle and consult the data model for import dependencies.
