Mixed make and buy operations
Mixed make and buy operations compare purchased components with internal production when arranging supply for customer demand. Material Requirement Planning retains the suggested choice, quantity, release date and need date so Production Planner can discuss the requirement alongside actual supplier purchases and planned work. The team checks the commitment it can arrange before changing the suggestion's state.
How Material Requirement Planning is set up for you
Use a common demand window
Review the approved customer requirements within the chosen horizon before comparing a purchase with a production option.
Check the suggested timing
Compare the release and need dates with the planning assumptions agreed with their owner. Agree any engineering and lead-time connection during setup.
Open the actual commitment
For Buy, check the purchase's item lines, remaining quantity and due date. For Make, inspect the work order's planned quantity and end date, then follow guarded production release.
Keep each owner involved
Production Planner coordinates the choice. Production Operator can maintain suggestions and record production evidence. Quality Reviewer reads the operating result and communicates findings.

Select a customer requirement the team can review against both an open supplier purchase and planned production supply. Confirm the item units and current warehouse reservations. Firm a reviewed suggestion and repeat planning with the same inputs so the planner can explain the quantity already covered.
Then move the supplier due date beyond the need date and review an internal work order whose planned end also misses it. Compare those dates with the customer requirement and discuss the remaining gap. Reconcile the suggestion with the actual document before marking it Released. Configure Manager's approval responsibilities and Admin's identity access during setup, with a named owner for stock corrections and supplier communication.
