What you can do
Work from the linked record
A dispensing line is the operational record of quantity dispensed from a specific lot against a specific prescription line. The line keeps the pharmacist name, dispense time and operation key. This identity supports reconciliation with the review and the signed stock event. Partial quantities remain separate entries so the team can see each occurrence and its lot. A completed review should be checked against the lines actually recorded.
A dispensing line records what was actually supplied, not merely the quantity allowed by the prescription. Its lot, prescription line, pharmacist and operation key let an auditor trace that event. If a prescription is filled in parts, each recorded event needs its own quantity and time.
How the work is organized
- Check the source line. Read the prescribed medication, authorized units and directions.
- Record the actual fill. Enter quantity, lot, pharmacist, time and operation key.
- Reconcile the event. Compare the line with the review and signed stock movement.
Dispensing history shows the actual entries by date. Follow a line to its prescription line and lot, then compare it with the pharmacist review and the signed stock event. If quantities differ, inspect the underlying records before changing another entry.
What to agree during setup
Agree how operation keys are assigned and how duplicate entries are detected. Decide how staff verify that a selected lot matches the medication on the prescription line. Train coordinators to enter the actual quantity and time rather than copying authorized units without checking the handoff.
Rehearse a partial fill against a known prescription line and a released lot. Keep the event time and operation key with the actual quantity. Compare the line with the approved dispense review and the lot event; investigate a mismatch before the next fill.
Check the handoff on an actual case
For a prescription line authorized for a given quantity, record one dispense from the selected lot. Inspect the lot number and expiry date, then compare the dispensing quantity with the review. Confirm that the stock event identifies the same lot and source. If another portion is dispensed later, keep its own operation key and actual time.
The next person opens the dispensing line to see the actual quantity, pharmacist and event time. Its prescription line and lot identify what was supplied. Compare its operation key and the stock event source identity when reconciling a partial fill or a repeated action.
