What you can do
Run the work
A carton label identifies a handling unit, its item, quantity, pack station and person who packed it. The pack state shows whether it is available, in pack, packed, staged or on hold. A pack station is a storage location. The team can compare units by item and station, then review damaged or held handling units before using them downstream.
How the work is organized
- Prepare. Inventory Clerk labels a handling unit, records its item and quantity, and selects a pack station. Inventory Supervisor checks units placed On Hold or Damaged before the next shift uses them. The register is a pack-state record for each carton.
- Set up. Choose a carton label and item, then agree which storage locations record names the pack station. Record the person packing the unit in packed by and keep that name consistent across shifts. Decide who can move a carton from Available through In Pack to Packed and Staged, and who investigates On Hold or Damaged units. The carton has no request or shipment reference, so use its own label when handing it to the next shift.
- Check. Keep the current record available to the next person before they change its state.
What to agree during setup
Choose a carton label and item, then agree which storage locations record names the pack station. Record the person packing the unit in packed by and keep that name consistent across shifts. Decide who can move a carton from Available through In Pack to Packed and Staged, and who investigates On Hold or Damaged units. The carton has no request or shipment reference, so use its own label when handing it to the next shift.
Check the first operating cycle with the assigned roles. Keep record identifiers stable when moving existing data so the next shift can recover the same case. Use the chosen location and item names consistently. Review the permitted states with the clerk and supervisor, then retain each earlier result when a later action corrects it.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Take a labeled tote containing a known item and quantity. Have Inventory Clerk set its station and pack state, then ask the next clerk to find it by label in Handling Units Register. They should read the item, quantity, station and packed-by name before moving it to Staged. Have Inventory Supervisor inspect a second unit marked Damaged. Keep it out of the ready packing list until its state is deliberately changed. Compare load details separately in Loads Board when planning outbound work.
Ask the next person to locate the same record and explain its current state, owner and next action. Where an action writes a receipt, inspect that result before retrying. Keep any failed result visible for the supervisor and auditor, and use the relevant record’s current revision for another decision.
