What you can do
Start with an identifiable subject
Inspector opens an inspection with a number, subject reference, type, scheduled date and named assignee. The subject reference can identify the part or operating case the team recognizes. The type distinguishes incoming, in-process, final and service work. The record gives the reviewer a specific scope to decide rather than a loose collection of measurements.
For a received part, the Inspector can identify the shipment or lot in the subject reference and choose an incoming inspection. The scheduled date makes unfinished work visible to the quality team. Inspector begins from Planned and moves the case to in progress when the checks begin.
How the work is organized
- One decision per inspection. The parent holds assignment, timing and final decision; linked checks hold the individual requirements.
- Evidence at the check. Each check records an observation, result and attachment where needed so the reviewer can see why it passed or failed.
- Review after completion. The Inspector sends a case to Review after required check evidence is present; Quality Reviewer makes the accept or reject decision.
What to agree during setup
Agree how the team writes the subject reference and inspection number, which types it will use in the pilot, and who may review each type. Define the required checks for an incoming case and what counts as usable evidence. A Pending result and an empty attachment are different issues: the reviewer needs the result and the evidence that supports it where the requirement calls for evidence.
Also agree what a failed check means for the parent case. The reviewer can reject failed scope and create a linked nonconformance with severity. The inspection must remain traceable to that later issue. For a passing case, the reviewer accepts the eligible scope. Record the completion date when the work actually finishes.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Take an incoming inspection for a known subject. Have Inspector enter two requirements, one observed as Pass and one as Fail, with the relevant attachment on each required check. Try to submit with the failed check’s required evidence absent. The submit should be refused. Add the evidence and send the inspection to Review. Quality Reviewer opens the checks from the inspection, sees the failed result and rejects the inspection. A linked nonconformance should carry the same inspection relationship for containment.
Repeat with a passing case. The reviewer should see the check evidence and accept that scope. This rehearsal proves that a list label alone does not stand in for a review decision. It also makes the assignee and reviewer responsibility clear to the team.
What your team sees
- Open inspections — Planned, active and review cases with the assignee and schedule in one queue.
- Inspections in review — Cases awaiting the Quality Reviewer decision.
- Failed checks — Requirements with a failed result and their attached evidence.
Follow the work through
Use inspection to disposition for the review handoff and corrective action for a rejected case’s follow-up.
