What you can do

Check the workstation against recorded limits

An ESD check identifies the workstation and the date checked. It stores the measured resistance in ohms beside the lower and upper limits used for that reading. Its operational record connects it to an inspection. Inspector records Pass for an in-limits measurement or Fail for an out-of-limits one. This makes a later review possible without reconstructing limits from a separate note.

The ESD Checks screen gives inspectors a place to capture the reading. The failed-check list shows the responsible reviewer the workstation, measurement, limits and linked inspection. A Pass remains with the inspection as recorded evidence; a Fail goes to containment review.

How the work is organized

  • Context. Begin with the operational record so the reading belongs to the relevant inspection and its inspected subject.
  • Measurement. Record the workstation, check date, resistance and both limits together. The values should be from the same test event.
  • Disposition. Use Pass when the reading lies within its recorded limits. A value outside those limits is Fail and is sent to Quality Reviewer for containment.

The inspection link also lets a reviewer consider whether an ESD failure affects the scope under review. A failed workstation check is itself a measured event; the inspection and nonconformance records carry their own decision states.

What to agree during setup

Agree the workstation naming convention and how the operating team determines the applicable limits. Document the measurement method outside the reading record and ensure the person capturing the value can identify the correct test point. Decide who reviews failures and what containment action the team takes for the affected inspection or work area. The recorded lower and upper limits should stay with each check even if the local operating limit changes later.

Define how the team handles repeat readings. A second reading should be captured as its own event when it represents a new check, rather than replacing the failed value. That gives the reviewer a clear sequence and avoids treating the later Pass as if the first failure never happened.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Inspector checks a workstation while an in process inspection is open. They select that inspection, record the workstation and check date, then enter the measured resistance and the limits applied. If the reading is between those limits and marked Pass, the inspection retains the check as context. A reading beyond the upper limit is marked Fail and appears in the failed ESD queue for Quality Reviewer.

The reviewer opens the linked inspection and decides how to contain the affected work. Rehearse a missing workstation, missing date and absent limit. Each makes the reading unsuitable for review until corrected. Rehearse a value at a limit boundary under the team’s agreed comparison rule, and confirm the recorded disposition matches that rule. The reviewer should still be able to see both the recorded number and the limit used for that exact event.

What your team sees

  • ESD failures — Out-of-limits workstation readings with their inspection and recorded limit range.
  • Inspection queue — The inspected subjects that give those readings their operating context.
