What you can do
Give the changeover a traceable result
An allergen verification identifies the line, previous allergen, next product, cleaning date and swab result. It links to an inspection, so the team can read the changeover alongside the broader quality work for that operating subject. The swab result moves through Pending, Pass or Fail as the evidence is reviewed.
Suppose a line changes from a product containing an allergen to a product with a different formulation. The Quality Inspector records the line, the previous allergen, the next product and when cleaning was done. The capture workflow validates the inspection link and changeover context, then submits the swab evidence for a responsible reviewer decision. Quality Manager can work through pending results before treating the inspection as complete.
How the work is organized
- Changeover context. The prior allergen and next product explain why the check exists.
- Inspection link. The operational inspection carries the assignee, subject and eventual disposition.
- Swab outcome. Pending keeps undecided evidence visible; Pass and Fail record the result.
A passing swab is one piece of an inspection. A failed swab calls for review of the inspection and the team’s production handoff. A rejected inspection can then connect to a nonconformance for containment and investigation. That path lets reviewers recover the original line and product change from the quality record.
What to agree during setup
Choose a stable way to name lines, allergens and products. Decide when the cleaning date is entered, who records the swab result, and who has authority to decide on pending evidence. Agree how a failed result is communicated to the line and how the inspection review reflects that outcome. These decisions should use the actual production changeover sequence rather than a generic checklist.
Agree how the quality decision reaches the production team. If a downstream production system must receive a hold or release decision, include that connection in the implementation plan and verify it using a real changeover case.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Walk through a specific line change with a named prior allergen and next product. Have the inspector open the relevant inspection and record the cleaning details. Leave the swab result Pending, then ask the Quality Manager to find it in the pending list and review the evidence. Record a Pass case and a Fail case. For the failure, follow the inspection through rejection and containment so the team sees how the changeover evidence remains attached to the decision.
