What you can do
Keep the roll evidence with the decision
Fabric inspection detail records the roll number, style, inspected length, defect points, width and unit. The detail points to an inspection through its operational record. This matters when several rolls or styles are checked near the same time: a reviewer should know exactly which inspection owns each set of measurements and which subject is under review.
The fabric capture workflow checks that the linked inspection and required fabric values are present. Once the authorized inspector submits the fabric detail, the linked inspection moves to Review for the responsible reviewer. The review decision still belongs to the inspection. If the evidence shows failed scope, the reviewer rejects that scope and opens a nonconformance linked to the inspection.
How the work is organized
- Identify. Record the roll number and style so the evidence can be traced to the inspected material.
- Measure. Enter inspected length, defect points, width and the unit used for the measurements.
- Submit. Link the fabric record to the selected inspection and send that inspection to Review.
What to agree during setup
Agree how operators identify a roll and style in the subject reference and fabric detail. Define the unit for length and width, and require inspectors to use it consistently. Quality Manager should settle the fabric acceptance rule that reviewers apply to defect points in the context of inspected length. The record supplies the measurements; the team supplies the policy for deciding whether the result passes.
Also agree whether the fabric record accompanies an Incoming or in process inspection and who reviews each kind. An inspector should verify the operational record before submission. A correct measurement on the wrong inspection would put evidence in the wrong decision queue and could cause an unrelated inspection to advance.
Check the handoff on an actual case
An inspector opens an Incoming inspection for a fabric delivery and chooses the relevant roll. They enter its roll number, style, inspected length, defect points, width and unit, then link the fabric record to that inspection. They save requirement checks with observations and attachments where needed. The fabric submission moves the inspection to Review.
The Quality Reviewer reads the roll evidence with the linked checks. If the inspected scope passes the agreed rule, the reviewer accepts it. If it fails, the reviewer rejects the affected scope, opens a linked nonconformance, records severity and assigns the follow-up action to a Corrective Action Owner. The roll measurements remain available when the Corrective Action Owner investigates the issue.
