What you can do
Follow the material into production
A material issue records the production work, ingredient item and lot with its quantity and issue date. Stock balances show the item’s location and lot beside on-hand and reserved amounts. Production Operator checks this context before submitting consumption. The posting action validates eligible work and free stock before changing the balance.
Production Planner also prepares supplier orders and their item lines when the team needs material supply. Ordered and received quantities show the current purchase context alongside the due date. Agree how the stock source confirms purchased material before treating it as available for a production issue.
How the work is organized
Production Operator submits consumption against eligible production work. The posting route checks the acting account, work-order lifecycle and exact eligible stock balance. Successful posting moves the issue from Draft to Posted and decrements that balance once. Production Planner investigates shortages and follows supplier commitments when more material is needed.
- Identify the source lot. Check the ingredient item and lot against the intended stock before preparing the issue.
- Respect reservations. Review on-hand and reserved quantities together so the requested amount fits within free stock.
- Confirm incoming supply. Compare ordered and received quantities with the stock owner’s receipt evidence before planning consumption.
What to agree during setup
Agree how the team selects the exact stock balance where the same item and lot exist in different locations. Use the site’s actual stock layout for the rehearsal and inspect the balance affected by posting. The operator should know how to resolve an ambiguous source before submitting consumption.
Decide who owns supplier receipt confirmation and opening stock quantities. Production Planner and Production Operator inspect balances using their configured access, while the guarded material action performs the consumption change. If another system owns stock receipts, configure that connection with the source owner and reconcile it against the same item and lot identities.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Use a rehearsal lot with 80 kg on hand and 30 kg reserved. A request for 45 kg fits within the 50 kg free amount when the remaining checks pass. A request for 55 kg must fail. Inspect the exact balance changed by the successful posting, then repeat the operation and confirm that it does not reduce stock again.
Repeat with the same item and lot at another location. Ask the operator to identify the intended source and show the balance actually used by the action. Keep a rejected request available to Production Planner so the stock question can be investigated without hiding the original consumption request.
Rehearse a correction with the person who owns inventory reconciliation. Show the earlier posting and the later action used to resolve the issue, then compare the resulting balance with the agreed physical stock. Staff should be able to explain the corrected quantity using the operating evidence before they continue production.
