What you can do
Make the price explainable line by line
Quote Specialist prepares the product code, quantity and unit price for each line. The line discount is a USD amount. Pricing calculates the line net amount by multiplying quantity by unit price and subtracting that discount, then adds the line amounts into the parent quote total. Pricing Reviewer can inspect the inputs that produced the offer rather than relying only on its headline value.
A unit cost can accompany the selling price for review. Keep that cost separate from the customer’s unit price and the line discount. An offer that looks reasonable at the total level can still contain a mistaken quantity or a discount entered against the wrong product. Line numbers help the preparer and reviewer discuss the same item.
The pricing request identifies an explicit draft and its expected revision. It also checks the price book revision. When the current draft differs from the request, resolve the conflict before pricing again. This protects the quote from an older request arriving after the customer has changed the order.
How the work is organized
- Input preparation. Quote Specialist checks each product code and quantity against the customer’s request. Unit prices and discounts belong to the same line and the same quote revision.
- Calculated amounts. The guarded pricing action validates the line values, writes each net line amount and sums the parent quote. Successful preparation moves the quote from Draft to Review.
- Price context. Pricing Reviewer checks the recorded price book revision and the line evidence. Organization currency provides business context while the quote’s priced amounts remain denominated in USD.
What to agree during setup
Agree who supplies approved product codes and the current price book reference. Those sources can be connected during setup. Decide how the team checks a price book change that occurs while a draft is being prepared, and who resolves a disagreement before submission.
Use examples to confirm discount entry. A line for three units at USD 80 with a USD 15 line discount has a net amount of USD 225. A preparer must not enter a percentage where the line expects a monetary amount. Agree the handling of decimal precision and unacceptable line values as part of the pricing rehearsal.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Prepare the example line and a second line for two units at USD 40 with no discount. The expected quote net amount is USD 305. Quote Specialist requests pricing on the current draft and Pricing Reviewer compares both line results with the quote total.
Then change a quantity while retaining an older request for the rehearsal. That stale request must not replace the current values or move the revised quote forward. Correct the request to the current revision before proceeding. Repeat the calculation with an invalid line input and confirm that the offer cannot reach review with an unexplained amount. Keep the pricing result with the same quote that will receive the approval decision.
