What you can do

Keep the decision with its source

A disposition decision is meaningful only when it names the stock request and the version the reviewer saw. The Inventory Supervisor checks the return grade’s accepted units and proposed disposition against the request. The release action records an approved, rejected, returned or escalated decision with a rationale and reviewer. It also advances the source record revision when release succeeds.

The release workflow checks the expected request revision. This matters when a clerk or another supervisor changes the quantity during review. An older approval cannot be applied to a newer scope. The action refuses a request that is already executed or cancelled. The team can then see a returned or escalated decision without confusing it with approval to post inventory.

The grade review and the disposition release answer related but distinct questions. Grade review accepts or rejects the inspection result. Release decides what scope can proceed on the stock request. A supervisor should compare both records before the release action. If the accepted quantity and the request quantity differ, state the authorized quantity clearly so execution and reconciliation use the same basis.

How the work is organized

  • Review basis. Read the current request, grade and attachments before deciding.
  • Recorded reason. Preserve the rationale for an approval, rejection, return or escalation.
  • Release control. Apply the decision only to the expected request revision and accepted scope.

What to agree during setup

Decide which conditions require a returned decision and which need escalation to a supervisor with more context. Agree the evidence needed for a partial return and who may correct the request quantity. Assign one owner for checking that the recorded rationale matches the physical inspection. Keep the decision register available to auditors without giving them an editing path.

Check the handoff on an actual case

The clerk submits a grade with eight accepted units for a request that originally expected ten. The supervisor approves the grade, checks the photos and releases the accepted scope with a rationale. If the request was edited after the supervisor loaded it, release stops on the stale revision. The supervisor reloads the case and decides again. If the request was already executed, another release is refused and the existing movement and receipt are used to understand what happened.
