What you can do
Movement evidence in daily work
A movement records its parent request, item, location, optional lot, signed quantity, posting flag and source effect key. The ledger keeps the original movement when a count or return requires a correction. A compensating movement points back through the reversal reference and has its own effect identity. Operation receipts retain the operation key, expected revision, result state and linked effect references for retry and investigation.
How the work is organized
- Posting. A signed movement changes on-hand only when posted against its parent request.
- Lineage. Keep the source effect key and original movement when a later effect compensates for it.
- Retry evidence. Match the receipt’s operation key and linked effects before deciding whether to repeat an action.
What to agree during setup
Agree who can request a correction, which evidence is sufficient, and who may approve a compensating posting. Test a retry after a timeout and verify that the posted quantity appears only once. Agree who selects the original movement and how a count or return establishes the allowed remaining scope. An Inventory Reviewer should authorize a compensating action on the current revision. The Warehouse Operator records the new signed effect and links it to the original. Rehearse a timeout after posting: the Reconciliation Analyst should find the effect through the receipt without posting again. Decide how the team will compare the resulting signed total with the physical count.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Consider a physical issue confirmed for more units than the verified count supports. The Coordinator selects the original effect and the allowed remaining scope. The Inventory Reviewer examines the count or return evidence and authorizes a compensating action. The Warehouse Operator posts the linked opposite effect. The Reconciliation Analyst compares both movements with the receipt and does not treat the original row as editable history. The original issue remains posted. The compensating movement points to it, and the two signed quantities explain the corrected on-hand position. If an active reservation still covers an unissued portion, release only that relevant claim; do not release an already consumed claim a second time. The Reconciliation Analyst checks the source effect key and operation receipt before marking an uncertain action complete. A return with a different quantity or lot needs its own supported scope and independent decision. The team can then explain both the first issue and its correction without changing history.
What your team sees
- Posted movement ledger — Signed effects and their links to original movements.
- Receipts needing investigation — Uncertain operations that need an effect comparison.
Follow the work through
Start with the client stock request path, then use review and correction when a decision or quantity needs attention. The data model shows how the records link, while roles helps the team rehearse access.
