What you can do
Check what remains available before committing it
A reservation records a claim on eligible free stock for an approved request. The Inventory Coordinator works from the posted movements and existing active reservations for the intended item and location. The reservation retains its request, quantity, expiry and any lot reference so the team can see which approved operation holds the stock.
Active, Released and Consumed describe the reservation’s recorded lifecycle. A posted stock quantity and an active claim answer different operating questions. The coordinator needs both when deciding whether the next approved request can be allocated without competing for quantity already committed to other work.
How the work is organized
- Eligible stock check. Identify the exact item and location and inspect the relevant lot context. Use posted stock and active claims to establish the free quantity considered for the approved request, keeping the item’s base unit consistent.
- Request-linked allocation. Retain the approved request and assigned owner behind each reservation. Its quantity and expiry explain the scope being held and give the Inventory Reviewer a basis for investigating a claim that needs attention.
- Consumption or release. Follow the applicable guarded execution or correction action when reserved work proceeds or its scope changes. Inspect the reservation state with the resulting movement and receipt so the operating record explains what happened to the claim.
What to agree during setup
Agree how long a reservation should remain valid and who follows up when its expiry arrives. Define the operating response for an active claim whose associated request is delayed or changed. Rehearse the release and consumption paths against the stock effect so the team understands when quantity becomes available again.
Check how competing requests for the same item and location are handled. Use separate owners during rehearsal and compare both requests with the remaining free stock. Where lot tracking applies, confirm that the reservation and resulting work refer to the intended eligible lot throughout the handoff.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Prepare an approved request to allocate CH-204 at CR-02. Inspect the posted stock and active reservations before the Inventory Coordinator attempts the allocation. Verify the resulting reservation’s quantity, request and lot reference, then compare the availability shown in Operations Overview with the active claim.
Prepare a second request that would exceed the remaining eligible free quantity. The team should resolve that shortage before any allocation can be treated as valid. Continue the first request through its applicable consumption path and inspect the resulting reservation state and stock effect. Also rehearse a changed or expired claim so the reviewer can explain its follow-up without editing the original posted quantity directly.
What your team sees
- Active Reservations — Current recorded claims with their request, item, location, lot, quantity and expiry.
- Reservation Expiry Follow-up — Active claims whose expiry date has arrived and needs review.
- Operations Overview — The stock position and availability after active reservations for the operating conversation.
Follow the work through
Rehearse reservation and consumption, then use reconciliation to verify an unsettled result.
