What you can do
Put the next action beside the stock number
Operations Overview gives the inventory team an operating picture of on-hand and available quantity. On-hand comes from posted movements; available quantity takes active reservations into account. The page also shows pending current revisions, failed operation receipts and an exception queue. This helps a coordinator see whether a number is ready for action or tied to work that still needs a person to resolve it.
For a returned item, the displayed available number should be read with its location and lot evidence. A posted quantity can exist while a lot is quarantined or blocked. A pending review can change whether the team should execute the request. Inventory Coordinator uses the overview to decide which case to open; Inventory Reviewer uses the underlying decision and receipt records to resolve it.
How the work is organized
- Inspect. Read posted quantity and active claims for the item and location in question.
- Prioritize. Open pending current revisions and requests in review before attempting a stock effect.
- Resolve. Investigate failed receipts and reconcile them with actual posted movements.
What to agree during setup
Agree how often the operating team reconciles the overview with the posted movement ledger. Decide who owns an exception when a receipt says Failed or needs review. Give coordinators a clear policy for when a request returns to review because its revision changed. Define how lot release decisions affect ordinary availability and who records the lot state.
Before a pilot, load representative items and locations, then run a return request through review, reservation and movement posting. Compare the overview after each step. A reservation should change available quantity without pretending a movement has already been posted. A posted movement should change on-hand quantity. The resulting figures should be explainable from the underlying records.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Suppose a return dock has received units while another approved request already holds some quantity. Inventory Coordinator opens Operations Overview and checks available quantity. The coordinator follows the active reservation to its request, then opens the posted movement ledger to see actual on-hand effects. If a new request needs more quantity than is free, the team resolves the competing claim before promising it.
Now simulate an operation receipt with a failed result. Inventory Reviewer checks the action and expected revision, then looks for any linked effect before retrying. Auditor can follow the same trail from the exception queue to the receipt and parent request. This rehearsal prevents a failed attempt from being confused with a completed movement and exposes cases that need human review.
What your team sees
