What you can do
Close the interval with an explainable result
Production Operator records a production interval against their personnel record and the work order. The interval contains a start, an end, good units and scrap units. Ending the interval submits those facts for validation, saves the production effect and routes completed output into a Pending batch for quality review.
Production Planner can then compare reported output with the work order’s planned quantity and inspect where the work sits. Production reporting carries the job through its operating states toward quality review. Quality Reviewer receives output that still needs an acceptance decision. Good units reported by the operator give the reviewer a production result to inspect; the accepted receipt follows the batch release decision.
How the work is organized
- Work identity. Link each interval to the actual work order and operator. This gives the planner a way to review production by job or person without using a station assignment as evidence of completed units.
- Time interval. Enter a credible start and end. Review intervals that cross a shift boundary with the operator before using elapsed time in an operating discussion.
- Unit result. Record good and scrap quantities separately. The production report can explain the output mix while the batch disposition records the subsequent quality decision.
What to agree during setup
Agree what the team counts as a good unit at the reporting point and when a damaged part belongs in scrap. Use the same unit as the production target so the planner can compare quantities directly. Decide how an operator reports a partially completed job at the end of a shift and when that output should be handed to quality review.
Review the people-to-user mapping before enabling personal work screens. Set a correction procedure for an interval entered against the wrong work order and agree who reviews a questionable end time. If payroll or machine telemetry needs these intervals, define that connection separately, including the owner of any time adjustments. Production reporting should retain a clear relationship to the physical work being counted.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Run a rehearsal job with a target of 120 brackets. Production Operator records an interval from the morning shift with 116 good units and 4 scrap units. Confirm the correct work order and operator, then submit the interval. Production Planner should be able to explain the total output and its scrap portion from the saved record. Quality Reviewer should find the completed output waiting for a disposition decision.
Repeat with an end before the start and with a negative unit count. These entries should fail validation without advancing the job or creating accepted stock. Review what happens when the operator repeats an uncertain submission, then compare the saved production effect and the pending output. Finish by checking that an unfinished portion of a job remains visible to the planner rather than disappearing behind a reported interval.
