What you can do
Give a station interruption a clear record
Production Operator raises an Andon event against the affected station. The event records when the interruption opened, a reason of Material, Equipment, Quality or Safety, and the resolution with its completion time. Submission validates the station, event dates, reason and resolution before applying the station state.
Production Planner uses that event in the context of released work and operator assignments. A station problem can change which work is ready to run and whether a later release should wait. Quality Reviewer can inspect the same event when an interruption affects the decision on produced output. The reason should describe the operational problem clearly enough for the next person to understand why the station needs attention.
How the work is organized
- Station link. Attach the event to the resource where the problem occurred. A specific station lets the planner compare the interruption with assignments and the jobs scheduled there.
- Reason and timing. Choose the relevant reason and record the opening time. Keep the event’s timing accurate so a later review can distinguish an unresolved interruption from a completed one.
- Resolution. Explain what was done and when the event was resolved. The station response follows the validated submission and the operating rule agreed for that reason.
What to agree during setup
Agree what the team means by each Andon reason and who should respond on the floor. A missing material lot and a machine fault need different practical responses even though both can stop work at the same station. Keep the choices understandable to operators who must raise an event while production is interrupted.
Decide how each event situation affects resource availability and how the station becomes ready again. Review that rule with Production Planner before release depends on it. Establish how operators communicate urgent events to the responsible people and how any notification connection will work. The event record should support that response with a clear opening time and resolution, rather than relying on an unexplained change to the resource.
Check the handoff on an actual case
During a bracket run, Production Operator raises an Equipment event against the press. Check that the event points to the correct station and that its opening time corresponds to the interruption. Production Planner reviews the affected station’s assignments and considers the impact on the next work order. Follow the agreed station-state rule and confirm the resource reflects the intended operating response.
When the problem is resolved, record the corrective action and a resolution time after the event opened. Rehearse an earlier resolution time and an incomplete resolution to see the validation response. Then submit a valid resolution and inspect the station again before allowing another release. Finish by asking a different operator to explain the interruption from the saved record. The history should make sense without relying on the original operator’s memory.
