What you can do
Keep the measurement attached to its source
Site Operator registers a building sensor with its identifier, building, zone, metric and unit against the selected operating record. That context helps the team understand what a later observation measures and why the sensor is relevant to the site condition being reviewed.
An observation records the time and value against the selected sensor, with Valid, Missing or Invalid quality. The sensor’s metric and unit provide the meaning of that value. Reviewing those details together helps Facilities Manager distinguish a useful measurement from information that needs investigation before it informs the response.
How the work is organized
- Sensor registration. Site Operator submits the sensor details and required operating-event reference through the specialty action. The action checks the submitted details and saves the sensor against that event. Open the saved registration to confirm its building and zone.
- Observation capture. Site Operator selects the sensor and records the observation date, value and quality. The capture action checks the entry before saving it. Review the saved observation alongside the sensor’s metric and unit.
- Quality review. Missing or Invalid observations remain visible for investigation. Facilities Manager and Site Operator inspect the sensor context before treating a value as useful evidence for the building condition.
What to agree during setup
Choose the sensor-identifier, building and zone conventions that the operating team recognizes. Confirm how the selected operating event establishes the site context for the registration. A building label in text should stay consistent with that context so staff do not confuse a familiar zone name with a different site’s sensor.
Agree the meaning of each metric and unit, the accepted observation-date practice and how quality flags are assigned. Define the source of sensor submissions and configure any external monitoring connection separately. Staff should open the saved observation and check its sensor, date and value before using it in the operating review.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Use a temperature sensor associated with the east-lobby ventilation event. Site Operator confirms the sensor identifier, building and zone, then submits the registration against that operating record. Open the saved sensor and check that its metric and unit describe the measurement the team expects.
Capture an observation against the sensor with its actual date and quality. Open the saved observation and confirm its sensor, date and value. Facilities Manager should be able to trace that value to the sensor and operating context. Include a Missing or Invalid observation and inspect how it appears in the quality-exception view.
Then attempt registration against an invalid operating record and capture against an invalid sensor. Those requests should not appear as successfully saved evidence. Finish by comparing observations from different metrics or units and confirm that the team keeps them separate in its review. A temperature value and another measure should not be combined simply because both are stored as numbers.
What your team sees
- Sensor Register — Sensor identity, building, zone, metric and unit with the operating-record reference.
- Sensor Observation Register — Dated values and quality against the selected sensor.
- Sensor Quality Exceptions — Missing and invalid observations requiring investigation.
Follow the work through
Use Sensor registration to observation, then Event acknowledgment to resolution for the building’s response process.
