What you can do
Make the measured value understandable
A soil result needs more context than its numeric value. The Lab Analyst records the analyte and unit with the method used, then links the result to the intended sample and reviewing person. Those details let the Quality Reviewer understand what the value represents before comparing it with another result or using it during the inspection discussion.
The sample carries the field, depth and receipt context. Open that record when a result needs explanation instead of inferring its origin from the analyte name. Use the controlled method material agreed by the laboratory to check the method description. The result’s recorded reviewer gives the team an identified person to consult about the attributed entry.
How the work is organized
- Analyte entry. The Lab Analyst records the analyte and value against the selected sample. Check the sample number and field context before submitting the entry.
- Unit and method. Keep the unit with the numeric value and identify the method used. Read those details before comparing results that may have been produced using different procedures.
- Review attribution. The reviewing person connects the entry to the laboratory’s review arrangement. Follow the agreed evidence handoff so that person can inspect the source material and address questions.
What to agree during setup
Agree the analyte names, units and method labels accepted by the lab’s capture procedure. Define how the analyst selects the reviewing person and which evidence accompanies a result. A method name should be specific enough for the reviewer to locate the laboratory’s intended procedure without guessing between similarly named documents.
Rehearse missing sample references and invalid units before importing a larger result set. Decide how repeated source identities are handled and how a corrected source result is submitted. Keep the method and unit visible in reports so a comparison does not combine values that the laboratory treats differently. Configure any instrument or external result connection separately with the responsible lab team.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Open sample S-1042 and confirm its north-field reference and collection context. The Lab Analyst prepares a phosphorus entry with the measured numeric value, the unit used by the lab and the applicable method label. Select the reviewing person and submit the attributed entry through the result capture procedure.
Ask the Quality Reviewer to trace the result back to its sample and locate the method material used for the work. Then rehearse an entry with an invalid unit and another submission carrying the same source identity. Inspect the rejection or repeat-handling outcome before proceeding. The team should be able to identify the valid result and its review evidence without treating a named reviewer as a substitute for examining the material.
What your team sees
- Soil Result Register — Read results with an analyte label alongside their value, unit and method.
- My Attributed Results — Find entries associated with the signed-in reviewing person.
- Approved Methods — Consult the approved controlled documents used in the laboratory’s method procedure.
Follow the work through
Use sample and result capture and continue the quality decision through inspection and disposition.
What it keeps track of
Data model- Soil results
- Analyte results measured on a soil sample, with unit, method and reviewing person.
- Soil samples
- Soil samples collected under an operational inspection record, with field reference, depth and receipt dates.
- People
- Laboratory staff and quality personnel referenced by inspections, audits, corrective actions and result reviews.
- Controlled documents
- Versioned controlled documents such as SO ps and methods, with effective date and approval status.
Who uses it
Permissions- Lab Analyst
- , Quality Reviewer, Inspector, Document Coordinator.
- The analyst captures the entry; the reviewer examines the attributed evidence.
