What you can do

Plan training and see who turned up

A training session records the team, the coach, a name, the location and its start and end time. For each session, the coach records each person’s attendance as Present, Absent or Excused. Over a season, attendance shows who is committed, who is injured and who needs a conversation.

Training sits alongside the fixture schedule, so coaches can plan sessions around matches and venue availability.

How the work is organized

  • Sessions by team. Each session belongs to one team and its coach.
  • Attendance per person. Present, Absent or Excused for every rostered person.
  • Coach’s own list. Each coach sees their own sessions.

What to agree during setup

Agree training locations and times for each team. Decide what counts as Excused, such as injury or school commitments. Agree whether attendance affects selection and who sees it.

Check the handoff on an actual case

The Harbor FC coach schedules Tuesday and Thursday training at the Harbor school field from 18:00 to 19:30. On Tuesday sixteen players attend, two are excused with injuries and one is absent without notice. The coach records each person’s status.

By the end of April the attendance report shows the absent player missed four of eight sessions. The coach speaks with her before naming the squad for the next match.

During the pilot, have each coach record attendance for two weeks of sessions. Check that every rostered person has a status for each session and that excused absences are kept separate from unexplained ones.

Attendance also helps the league. When a coach reports that a player missed training through injury, the excused status supports any later request to change the roster or postpone a fixture, and the coordinator can see training load across teams before the end of the season.
