What you can do
Make the maintenance request actionable
Maintenance Manager uses the work order to explain what needs attention and who will do the work. Select Preventive, Corrective or Inspection work, identify the asset and describe the requested action. The request date and due date support planning, while the assigned person gives Technician a clear starting point for the day’s work.
A Requested job still needs authorization. Approved and Scheduled work belongs in the execution discussion; work under Inspection belongs in the completion discussion. Keeping those states visible helps Maintenance Manager distinguish a job awaiting a decision from one whose technician needs support at the bench.
How the work is organized
- Scope and authority. Maintenance Manager verifies the asset and work description, arranges the required permit approval and confirms assignment. Schedule the work after those decisions are clear, with a due date the assigned Technician understands.
- Execution. Technician starts through the authorized work action. The start workflow validates safety and authorization, posts planned part usage exactly once, logs the start and sets the eligible asset to Maintenance.
- Completion evidence. Work logs describe the work performed and its actual interval. Maintenance Manager brings that evidence together with parts usage and relevant specialty outcomes before closing the job and reviewing its service history.
What to agree during setup
Define the information a requester must provide before Maintenance Manager approves work. Agree how the team uses Preventive, Corrective and Inspection, and how a due date changes when the tool or technician is unavailable. A useful description tells the next person what to examine without requiring them to reconstruct an earlier conversation.
Map each Technician to the correct person and user account so assigned work reaches the right individual. Agree how the work log is completed when maintenance pauses or passes between shifts. The recorded interval describes work that happened; use a planning-system connection if the shop also needs resource-capacity scheduling.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Use TD-17 with an edge defect and a corrective request due before its next intended use. Maintenance Manager checks the scope, assigns Technician and confirms the required permit interval before scheduling. Technician opens the assigned job and starts work through the authorized action. Check the resulting tool state, work start and part usage together.
At the end, Technician records the work performed and end time. If sharpening is involved, Maintenance Reviewer checks its eligible outcome before Maintenance Manager completes the job. Repeat the start request during rehearsal and confirm the same planned consumption is not posted twice. Then test an expired permit so the team recognizes why work cannot proceed under an old approval.
