Workflow Automation Engine · Available now

Trace each automation from revision to result.

Workflow Automation Engine organizes automation definitions by organization, owner, revision and connector. An owner prepares a definition; validation records a durable run and step trace, moves the definition to Validated and opens an independent review decision.

A trace from draft to verified outcome

Definition to verified result ships ready to use. One step needs a named approval before the work moves on: Decide review (Reviewer).

Controls

Preserve the revision and receipt trail

Each stage of definition to verified result names the role that acts and the status it records, so a change is never anonymous.

Prepare the next check with Proto

Ask Proto to prepare traceable review and execution checks.

It can

  • Automation Owner: Gather the definition revision, connector and validation trace for review.
  • Reviewer: Compare a pending decision with its source revision and supporting evidence.
  • Operations Operator: Locate a failed operation by key and summarize its attempts and step receipts.
  • Integration Steward: Compare a connector's mapping version with the fields observed in a test run.

Stays with a person

  • The Reviewer makes the approval decision.
  • The Operations Operator confirms outside results before retrying or accepting an uncertain run.
  • Proto can organize the records and prepare a check, but it must act within the person's permissions and retain the original evidence and revision history.

Implementation

Roll out one team at a time

Start with one team and one process, then add the rest once the basics are running.

  1. Agree ownership

Name the organization, Automation Owner, Reviewer, Operations Operator and Integration Steward for the first automation.

  2. Map the input

Choose a source record identifier, connector, input schema, definition version and field mapping that can be checked against the source system.

  3. Validate and decide

Run revision validation, inspect its operation and step trace, then have a separate Reviewer record the decision.

  4. Run and reconcile

Execute one reviewed revision, compare the run, attempt and step receipt with the action provider, and investigate an uncertain response before any retry.

  5. Rehearse correction

Create a successor revision through the correction workflow and leave the follow-up open until the compensating outcome is verified.

All questions
How do I get started?

Click Get started, then use Proto to configure Workflow Automation Engine for your business. Pilot one definition, one reviewed revision and a source request whose outside result your team can verify.

What does a definition contain?

It ties the automation to an organization, owner and connector. It also keeps trigger information, input schema, retry policy, version and current status.

Who makes the review decision?

A named Reviewer records the decision on the source revision, with a reason and evidence reference. Agree who can review each organization's work when setting up access.

How do we see what ran?

Open the execution and its linked operation run. Check the attempt and step records for timing, result references and outside receipts.

What if a provider times out?

Check the operation key, provider reference and any step receipt with the outside service before deciding whether another attempt is safe.

Can we correct a completed action?

The correction workflow retains the earlier revision, records a correction run and compensating step, creates a successor and opens a verification follow-up.

Can teams use different outside services?

Action connectors and field mappings identify the service context for a definition. Configure each provider's account and credentials with its owner.

How is the history kept?

State history records changes against a definition with actor, revision, operation key and reason. Decisions, evidence documents, runs and follow-ups retain their own records.

What should we test first?

Validate a revision, record both an approved and returned review, run one known source request, investigate a failed attempt and verify a correction against the outside service.
