Help for the people running production

Use Proto to configure the print-shop process and help the team examine its production records.

It can

  • Production Planner: Find Draft work awaiting release and compare its resource, quantity and planned dates with the customer order.
  • Production Operator: Find assigned finishing work and help prepare a production interval with the correct work-order and personnel links.
  • Quality Reviewer: Gather the lot's work-order output and the related builds' progress and finishing results for review.
  • Manager: Compare a supplier purchase's ordered and received quantities before the next purchasing decision.

Stays with a person

  • People own order approval and purchasing decisions.
  • The operator must confirm physical work and the reviewer must examine the parts and evidence needed for the lot decision.
  • Connections to printers, accounting and shipping require the customer to agree access and responsibility.
  • Give the assistant a clear scope before asking it to change records.

Implementation

Roll out one team at a time

Start with one team and one process, then add the rest once the basics are running.

  1. Agree the operating cycle

Choose a customer order with a clear part, material and printer. Assign responsibility for order approval, release requests, finishing and lot disposition.

  2. Prepare identities and stock

Load customers, suppliers, items and printers. Link shop people to platform users and reconcile material balances by item, lot and location.

  3. Configure working screens

Set up the planner’s release inbox and schedule, operator assignment screens and reviewer queues. Check personal filters with the actual people who will use them.

  4. Rehearse the actions

Try a rejected release, a corrected release and a replay. Post and reverse a measured material quantity, then end a valid production interval and inspect the resulting review state.

  5. Check finishing and purchasing

Record a finishing result that keeps a lot Held. Rehearse a partial supplier receipt and agree the incoming-stock handoff before operators issue that material.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Scope, rollout and pricing for 3D Printing Job Manager.

All questions
How do I get started?

Click Get started, then use Proto to configure 3D Printing Job Manager for your business. Begin with a customer order, a familiar printer and material lot, then rehearse release, material posting, output recording and finishing review.

What belongs on a print build?

Keep the model attachment, printer, material, layer height and estimated hours with the build. Link the work order for customer production so finishing staff can follow the same run.

How does work reach the operator?

The Production Planner prepares the work order and requests release. The release action checks the linked order, quantity, resource availability and schedule before eligible work becomes Released.

What happens when a printer is unavailable?

Keep its resource state current as Maintenance or Unavailable. The planner reviews a rejected release, corrects the assignment or schedule and requests release again through the agreed process.

How are material corrections handled?

Post a material issue against its item and lot. Reversing that posted issue restores its stock effect once. Rehearse posting and reversal retries with a known balance before live use.

When does work enter quality review?

Ending a valid production interval routes an eligible released or in-progress work order into quality review. The reviewer still checks the finishing evidence and remaining work before the planner records the lot and job outcome.

Can finishing work be assigned to someone?

Yes. Assign support removal, washing, curing or sanding to a shop person against the build. The operator records completion and a result that the next person can understand.

How are partial material deliveries followed?

Purchase lines retain ordered and received quantities. The planner follows the outstanding amount and checks the agreed receipt conditions before marking the supplier order Received. Set up the incoming-stock handoff separately.

Who records the lot decision?

The Quality Reviewer examines production and finishing evidence. The Production Planner records the lot as Pending, Released, Held or Rejected under the team's review procedure and maintains the work-order outcome.

How do design and shipping tools fit in?

Agree connections or operating procedures with the systems that own model preparation, slicing and dispatch. Use the connections page to define the records and responsibilities for the pilot.
