What you can do
Price every line the same way
Each quote is built from quote lines. A line carries its line number, the product code of the part, the Quantity, the unit price USD from the price book, any discount USD and the unit cost USD your estimators expect. Pricing works on one Draft quote at a time and on every line of it. For each line it writes net line USD as Quantity times unit price USD minus discount USD, then sums the lines into net amount USD on the quote, records the price book revision applied and moves the quote to Review.
Before anything is written, the pricing run checks the organization scope, that the quote is still in Draft, that the expected Revision matches and that every line has usable values. If any check fails, no line is changed and the quote stays unpriced. The run leaves one operation receipts entry under a stable operation key, either Completed or Failed with a failure reason, so the team can see what happened without guessing.
How the work is organized
- Lines belong to one quote revision. Each line’s Parent is the quote and its Revision matches the quote revision it was priced for. A new revision gets its own priced lines.
- Retries do not price twice. Repeating the same pricing request returns the original receipt with no second write.
- Cost stays beside price. unit cost USD sits on the line next to unit price USD and discount USD, so the Pricing Reviewer can compare the net line value with the expected cost during review.
What to agree during setup
Agree where the price book lives and how its revisions are named, because each priced quote records the price book revision it used. Decide which product code values your team quotes and whether discounts are entered per unit or per line before they are converted to discount USD. Agree who maintains unit cost USD and how often it is refreshed. Quote values are held in USD; if customers are quoted in another currency, agree how the read-only exchange rates are used when you present the quote outside the app.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Pick a recent quote with several lines and one discounted line. Enter it as a Draft with the same quantities, unit prices and discount, and run pricing with the price book revision you actually used. Compare net line USD on each line and net amount USD on the quote with the figure your customer received. Then run the same request again and confirm that the receipt is replayed and nothing is written twice. Finally change one line value to something invalid and confirm the run fails with a clear failure reason and leaves the earlier values untouched.
Ask the Quote Specialist to explain the net amount line by line, and the Pricing Reviewer to explain which lines carry the thinnest margin over unit cost USD. Both should reach the same answer from the same lines.
What your team sees
- Draft quotes to price — quotes still in Draft with owner, revision, price book revision and validity date.
- Quote line pricing — every line grouped by quote with quantity, unit price, discount, unit cost and net line value.
Follow the work through
- Draft to priced quote: Build a draft quote with its lines, then price it against a price book revision.
- Pricing review to acceptance: Record an independent decision on the priced revision and capture the customer’s acceptance.
Check the data model before importing price lists or open quote lines.
