What you can do

Keep the batch's material evidence together

A material issue explains a withdrawal against a work order. Batch input records carry the material, source lot, issued quantity and unit against the batch itself. Operator uses that connection to explain what went into a specific run, and Quality Reviewer uses it when examining the batch’s disposition. The batch also points to its work order so the team can follow the input back to production demand.

Choose the batch before entering its material evidence. The capture action resolves the selected batch and material and checks that the batch exists before saving. Use the source lot printed on the material being consumed. A familiar material name alone does not identify which delivery supplied the run.

How the work is organized

  • Select the batch. Operator checks the batch’s lot number and linked work order. Similar production dates make this check especially useful when the same product is made repeatedly.
  • Record the input. Enter the material, source lot, issued quantity and unit for the actual input. Keep separate source lots distinguishable when the run consumes material from more than one lot.
  • Review attribution. Quality Reviewer compares the input evidence with the work order’s posted material issues. Investigate a different lot or quantity before relying on the batch record for an acceptance decision.

What to agree during setup

Quality Reviewer creates the batch against its work order, enters the lot number and sets its disposition to Pending before Operator captures inputs. Agree when Operator enters that evidence. Choose a consistent spelling for units and source lots. The material reference identifies an item, while the source lot is entered as text; the operating check should catch a transposed lot label before it reaches quality review.

Decide how corrections will be reviewed when the selected batch or source lot is wrong. Preserve enough context for the team to explain the original physical issue. Input capture should follow the same work being recorded on the floor. It must not be used to imply another inventory withdrawal after the material issue has already been posted.

Check the handoff on an actual case

A mixing run uses 20 kilograms from an ingredient lot and 5 kilograms from a later lot of the same ingredient. Operator selects the same batch for both input records and keeps each source lot and quantity distinct. Quality Reviewer can then inspect the material contribution without interpreting the combined 25 kilograms as having come from a single lot.

Compare those inputs with the material issues against the batch’s work order. If the issue names the earlier lot but the input names the later one, the team has a concrete discrepancy to investigate. Check the physical label and posting record before changing the batch evidence. A convenient total is insufficient when the source lot differs.

For the pilot, try to submit an input against a batch that cannot be resolved. The capture action should reject the invalid reference. Then save an ordinary input and inspect the inventory balance before and after. The evidence record should attach to the intended batch without creating a second material posting. Ask Operator and Quality Reviewer to explain the same case independently.

What your team sees

  • Batch Input Register — Inspect every input record, including entries whose quantities still need review, with its material, source lot and unit.
  • Posted Material Issues — Compare the batch’s input evidence with the recorded withdrawals against its work order.

Follow the work through

Follow Lot to batch input for the issue and attribution sequence. Continue with Batch output to release when the batch is ready for inspection. Review reference mapping in Data model.
