What you can do
Give the floor a settled production plan
Planner starts with the customer order and the product to make. The work order carries its planned quantity, resource and start and end dates. Those details give Operator a clear production reference and let Quality Reviewer follow the finished batch back to the work that produced it. Review the required date on the customer order alongside the planned production window before committing the floor to the run.
A resource has a daily capacity in minutes and an availability state. Planner checks whether it is Available, in Maintenance or Unavailable when discussing the day’s work. The planned dates make competing demands visible so the team can agree a workable sequence. Keep resource names specific enough for Operator to recognize the equipment or production area assigned.
How the work is organized
- Prepare the draft. Planner selects the product and customer order, enters the production quantity and chooses a resource. Check the product’s unit before comparing the requested amount with the batch plan.
- Release the work. The release action checks the order lifecycle before moving a Draft work order to Released. Its product, planned quantity and material requirements are then frozen for production.
- Follow progress. Operator records production against that work order. Quality review identifies work awaiting the quality handoff, and accepted output release completes the work order after the inventory receipt.
What to agree during setup
Agree who prepares the demand and who performs production release. Choose the naming convention for resources, the meaning of the planned dates and how Planner checks daily capacity before release. Walk through a customer cancellation with the team so they know which open work needs attention. Release should use the current order lifecycle, even when a draft was prepared earlier.
Decide how a requested product or quantity change will be handled after release. Ask Planner to examine the existing work before preparing a replacement. The original released basis must remain understandable to Operator and Quality Reviewer. Include the time zone used for planned dates in the operating instructions.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A customer requests 500 containers. Planner prepares the work order for the selected product and assigns the mixing resource for the morning. Before release, the team discovers that the resource is in Maintenance. Planner reviews the assignment and dates while the work is still Draft, then checks the customer order’s lifecycle and releases the settled plan.
Operator opens the released work order and confirms the product and quantity before issuing material. Later, a production interval sends the work to quality review. Planner can see why it is waiting without treating recorded good units as already accepted inventory. Quality Reviewer checks the linked batch and releases eligible output when inspection is complete.
During rehearsal, try to change the released product and planned quantity. The frozen plan should remain protected. Then follow the ordinary production case through completion and confirm that the batch still points to the same work order and customer demand.
What your team sees
- Production Schedule — Review planned start and end dates alongside the assigned resource and production quantity.
- Work Order Board — Follow each work order through production and quality review while keeping its product and customer order in view.
- Draft Work Orders — Check the production plan before release.
Follow the work through
Use Order to work order for release preparation and Interval to quality review for the production handoff. Agree the pilot in Implementation.
