What you can do
Assembly in daily work
Warehouse Manager selects an active bill of materials and routing for the output product. The work order freezes planned quantity, input components, work instructions, output standard and receiving warehouse. Release requires a reviewed decision. Warehouse Operator records actual operation throughput, material issue, scrap and labor evidence against that released scope.
How the work is organized
- Freeze the recipe. Warehouse Manager chooses the active bill of materials, routing and output standard for the planned kit quantity before release.
- Record actual work. Warehouse Operator enters component issues, operation throughput, scrap and labor against the released work order.
- Accept output. A completion records finished quantity and cost; a partial completion leaves the remaining work visible for another operation.
What to agree during setup
Agree which component version and routing applies to each output product and how product units convert into the recipe’s output basis. Set the receiving location and standard cost before Warehouse Manager releases work. Confirm who records operation evidence and who reviews a cost variance at close.
Use a kit with components drawn from owned stock. Rehearse a material issue, a partial operation, a scrap entry and accepted finished output. Check the component balance, work-in-progress cost and finished stock after each event. Finance Manager should see the residual cost before an exceptional close decision.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A distribution team can assemble a kit from stocked footwear items for a dealer order. Component issues reduce the eligible input stock and accumulate work-in-progress cost. Terminal output becomes accepted finished quantity only through a completion record. The close review checks residual variance or the independent finance decision before the work order closes.
Warehouse Manager should compare the completed output with the frozen planned quantity and the material actually issued. If an operation is corrected, preserve the earlier entry and its reason. Finance Manager reviews any residual variance needing authority; the team closes work only after the completion and cost records reconcile.
What your team sees
- Production Schedule — Released and partly completed work orders with planned start and end dates.
- Warehouse Availability — Component positions available for the next material issue.
- Count Review Queue — Stock observations needing review before an adjustment.
Follow the work through
Walk through the related process and use the data model to trace each source record. Set the owners and review boundaries in roles before an operating cycle starts.
What it keeps track of
Data model- Bill of materials
- Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
- BOM components
- Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
- Routings
- Versioned assembly/repacking instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
- Routing operations
- Ordered work instructions and declared labour/overhead bases.
- Work orders
- Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
- Work order components
- Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
- Work order operations
- Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
- Production log
- Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
- Production completions
- Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
- Work order cost entries
- Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.
Who uses it
Permissions- Warehouse Manager
- , Warehouse Operator, Finance Manager, Accountant release work and review output.
- Warehouse Operator
- Records material and operation facts.
- Finance Manager
- Reviews a residual variance and Accountant follows the cost posting.
