Kitting & Assembly · Available now

Build kits against controlled components and customer demand.

A dealer order can create demand for a finished kit. The team defines the kit as a stock item, records a versioned bill of materials and routing, and plans a kit build with a positive output quantity and scheduled dates.

Ask Proto about the next kit decision

Use Proto to prepare records and explain the next decision in the kit cycle.

It can

  • Warehouse Manager: Show kit builds awaiting release with their bill, route, standard and component claim context.
  • Warehouse Operator: Find assigned operations and explain which quantities and times to record on a production entry.
  • Purchasing Manager: Compare open component requirements with accepted receipts and purchase order lines.
  • Finance Manager: Explain a completion's actual work in process, standard output value and variance before the close decision.

Stays with a person

  • People still make the release, acceptance and financial decisions.
  • The assistant can prepare the case and show linked records, but a manager should check the actual quantity and evidence before approving a work order or completion.
  • A bank or carrier outcome also needs the external evidence appropriate to that connection.

Implementation

Roll out one team at a time

Start with one team and one process, then add the rest once the basics are running.

  1. Confirm the operating scope

Choose the organization, warehouse, finished kit, dealer order and people who will prepare and review each record.

  2. Load the controlled basis

Set units, stock items, bill, route, standard cost and locations. Check the component quantities against a physical example.

  3. Rehearse supply and build

Release the work order, receive a partial supplier quantity, reserve accepted stock, record operation evidence and post a partial completion.

  4. Rehearse the handoff

Pick finished stock, dispatch a bounded shipment and record a delivery outcome that includes an exception.

  5. Reconcile and expand

Compare stock, work in process, order balance and financial entries before adding more kits or warehouses.

Scope, rollout and pricing for Kitting & Assembly.

All questions
How do I get started?

Click Get started, then use Proto to configure Kitting & Assembly for your business. Begin with one kit, its bill and route, a warehouse, one dealer order and a small build through shipment.

Can a kit have a changed component recipe?

Yes. Bills have versions and effective dates. A released build keeps its selected bill and routing basis; use a reviewed version for later work.

How do we know whether components are actually available?

Inventory positions distinguish on-hand, reserved and available quantity by item and location. Receipt acceptance separates usable stock from an arrival still under review.

Can we make part of a planned build?

Yes. Production entries record actual work and completions can record accepted output for a portion of the build. The remaining scope and variance stay visible.

What happens to unused components?

Work order materials retain required, issued, returned and consumed quantities. A return records the unused quantity with its stock movement history.

Who releases a build?

Warehouse Manager reviews the work order's output product, bill, route, standard, quantity and evidence. The release decision is retained separately from the draft.

Does an operation entry create finished stock?

A reviewed completion posts accepted terminal output to stock. Operation entries remain the evidence of work, good quantity, scrap and labour.

Can we trace a kit back to a dealer order?

A build can link to an order line. Shipment lines also point to order lines and the claimed finished stock, preserving the fulfillment path.

How are delivery exceptions recorded?

A delivery attempt records the visit. Its results allocate accepted, refused, failed or damaged quantities to shipment lines for follow-up.

How do we explain a build cost variance?

Work order cost entries retain material, labour, overhead and completion relief. The completion compares allocated actual work in process with standard output value and records the variance.
