What you can do
Put the operating result beside its basis
Production Operator records the run minutes, total units and good units observed for a production window. Each observation has a name and observation time, so a reviewer can identify the evidence being discussed. The Business Overview aggregates availability, performance, quality and OEE from planned windows with resource and downtime context.
Production Planner uses the underlying observation when a headline result needs explanation. A short run and a large scrap count lead to different questions. Review the time and quantity inputs before assigning a cause, and keep the selected window visible while checking the result with the operator.
How the work is organized
- Run capture. Production Operator records the actual run minutes and the time of observation. The selected window provides the planned minutes and ideal cycle needed to understand the production basis.
- Unit evidence. Total and good units belong to the same observation boundary. Agree whether a reading is a period total or an incremental contribution before combining it with another reading for the window.
- Review selection. Quality Reviewer identifies the observation being assessed. A coverage snapshot links that observation to its window and reviewer so the discussion can return to the same evidence later.
What to agree during setup
Agree the source of the run clock and the counting unit. A case, a piece and a pallet cannot share a comparison simply because each is a quantity. Define when operators take a reading and how the team handles a correction after someone has already reviewed it.
Set the interpretation of repeated observations before introducing comparisons across resources. Choose how the team identifies the observation used for a completed review and how provisional readings are handled. Review availability and performance against a consistent planned basis, and confirm the treatment of periods with no production before publishing their results internally.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Use a rehearsal window for Press A morning. Production Operator enters a reading with 180 run minutes, 600 total units and 570 good units, then records when the reading was taken. These quantities are illustrative inputs for checking the handoff, not an expected production result.
Quality Reviewer checks that the reading belongs to the intended window and asks whether the counts cover the entire period. If the operator later supplies a corrected reading, the reviewer identifies which observation is used in the next snapshot. Production Planner checks the Business Overview against that choice and investigates any difference before sharing the comparison. Do not assume that a later timestamp alone settles which reading represents the run.
What your team sees
- OEE Observations — Run minutes and total and good units beside the named production window.
- Review Coverage Gaps — Reviews whose evidence still needs attention before the team relies on the result.
Follow the work through
Use capture run evidence for the operator handoff and review window coverage for the evidence discussion. Read the data model for the links between these records.
What it keeps track of
Data model- OEE observations
- Run minutes and unit counts observed for a planned production window.
- Planned production windows
- Planned production windows per resource with planned minutes and ideal cycle.
- OEE review snapshots
- Reviewer coverage snapshots linking a window to its observation.
Who uses it
Permissions- Production Operator
- , Production Planner, Quality Reviewer, Manager.
- Operators capture the observation, planners resolve the operating basis, and reviewers decide whether the evidence covers the intended period.
