What you can do
Part catalog in daily work
An item and its lots establish the identity and lot policy of a part before a request asks for quantity. A SKU is an item identity; a vehicle fitment decision belongs to a separate check. This distinction matters when a replacement part shares an OEM reference with another item. The request, decision and resulting records give each person a way to trace what changed and who acted.
For a brake assembly, enter the SKU, name and base unit under the operating organization. Set its lot policy before receiving stock. When a lot is used, record its code, expiry and release state. A lot marked Quarantined or Blocked must stay out of eligible issue and reservation work.
How the work is organized
- Set the scope. Start with the organization and part, then confirm the request location and any lot used for the case.
- Keep the decision. Inventory Reviewer checks the submitted revision and records a decision with a reason.
- Trace the effect. Inventory Coordinator follows the reservation or posted movement back to the approved request.
What to agree during setup
Agree who creates items, how SKU changes are controlled, what base unit quantities use, and when a lot is Released. Decide how the owner reference and expiry evidence are checked before Inventory Coordinator selects a lot. Inventory Coordinator and Inventory Reviewer should rehearse the usual case and an exception using the same request.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Take a part with a released lot and an otherwise identical blocked lot. Prepare an approved request at a storage location. The eligible lot should be the only one used for a reservation or movement. Compare the request item with the movement item and lot, then inspect the linked operation receipt. Inventory Coordinator shows the source request; Inventory Reviewer explains the decision on its revision. Auditor traces the outcome without changing records. Pause a case with a mismatched item, location, lot or revision before another action.
