Prepare the next finance review with Proto

Ask Proto to prepare a finance review from the records your team owns.

It can

  • FP&A Planner: Find plans awaiting review and open the cost center lines behind a large variance.
  • Finance Leader: Summarize an in review plan with its owner, period, line totals and review history before a decision.
  • Period Owner: List open accounting periods with linked document values and recent operation results.
  • Reviewer: Trace a skipped action to its operation receipt and related record.

Stays with a person

  • Proto prepares the case and can carry out authorized actions under the configured permissions.
  • A person decides whether to approve a plan and when a period is ready to advance.
  • Check the source records and the recorded result before using a response in a finance meeting.

All questions
How do I get started?

Click Get started, then use Proto to configure Financial Planning & Analysis for your business. Begin with one organization, a planning period, cost center plan lines and the people who own approval and period review.

Can I compare budget with actual spend?

Yes. Budget vs Actual ranks cost center variance and opens the plan lines behind each total. Agree the source of actual amounts before using the comparison in a decision.

Who approves a plan?

Finance Leader reviews a plan in in review and uses Approve Plan. The action records a review decision and operation receipt.

What happens if approval is attempted twice?

An invalid plan transition is refused and records a Skipped operation result. Review the plan status and receipt before trying again.

How are forecasts organized?

Forecast versions link a business partner, driver, organization and owner to a dated term. The record holds forecast and actual-to-date amounts.

What does a hold mean?

A forecast version marked Hold carries a hold reason. The owner and Finance Leader can review it in Forecast Versions On Hold.

How do accounting periods advance?

Advance Accounting Period moves Draft to Validated and then Validated to Posted. Each action records an operation receipt.

Where do accounting documents fit?

Documents link to accounting periods, counterparties and organizations. Their lines and related cash receipts provide the detail behind document totals and balances.

How do we check a failed cash receipt?

Open Failed Cash Receipts and inspect the receipt's amount, method, bank reference, business partner and document before resolving the exception.

Can we keep review evidence?

Review Decisions record the reviewer, outcome and reason. Record Attachments can point to the related parent record and Operation Receipts retain action outcomes.
