Prepare work with Proto

Ask Proto to help prepare count, review and reconciliation work from the app's records.

It can

  • Inventory Coordinator: Find requests due for a count and summarize item, location, owner and current status.
  • Inventory Reviewer: Present submitted counts with recount units, attachments and the source revision for a human decision.
  • Warehouse Operator: Show the selected item's posted movements, active reservations and lot release state before physical work.
  • Program Manager: List receipts that failed or need review and connect each one to its parent request.

Stays with a person

  • A person must make the independent variance decision and confirm any physical movement.
  • Proto can organize the evidence and help prepare a rehearsal; the named operator and reviewer remain responsible for their recorded actions.

Implementation

Roll out one team at a time

Start with one team and one process, then add the rest once the basics are running.

  1. Set the boundary

Identify the first organization, items, lots, locations and team members.

  2. Assign decisions

Choose who prepares requests, counts, reviews variances and records physical effects.

  3. Rehearse a count

Submit one blind count, record a separate reviewer decision and inspect the resulting stock movement.

  4. Check availability

Add an active reservation and verify how it changes available stock while on hand stays tied to posted movements.

  5. Reconcile

Match operation receipts to the source revision and linked effects; route discrepancies for review.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Scope, rollout and pricing for SCM with Cycle Counting.

All questions
How do I get started?

Click Get started, then use Proto to configure SCM with Cycle Counting for your business. Begin with one organization, a small set of items and locations, and one count that a separate reviewer can decide.

What is the difference between on hand and available?

Posted stock movements determine on hand. Active reservations reduce the quantity available for another request without changing the physical on-hand position.

Can a count be reviewed independently?

Yes. A submitted count session is linked to its stock request. The review decision records the reviewer, source revision, decision and reason.

Where does a recount go?

The count session has a recount quantity alongside the physical quantity. Supporting files can be attached to the parent stock request.

What happens when a count is rejected?

The session can carry Rejected status and the reviewer records a reason. The team can revisit the observation and submit corrected scope for another decision.

How are posted corrections traced?

A compensating stock movement can reference the original movement through its reversal reference, preserving the original ledger history.

How do reservations affect a count?

A reservation is a claim on available quantity. It does not alter the physical observation or the movement-derived on-hand balance.

Can we track lots and expiry?

Stock lots carry lot code, expiry date and release state. Movements and reservations can point to a lot.

What if an operation fails?

Operation receipts keep failed and review-needed outcomes with an operation key, reason and effect references for investigation.

Who closes a count cycle?

Program Manager checks the reviewer decision and reconciled effect before treating the count session as completed.
