Define what the workshop will make

The bill of materials describes the primary finished product, its output basis and the component quantities needed to make it. Product-specific units keep purchasing packs, material consumption and output quantities consistent.

A routing gives the team its sequence, instructions and terminal operation. Planned material allowances explain expected input requirements; actual scrap remains a separate record of what happened. The released method preserves both the technical version and its known cost assumptions.

• Identify the product and quantity the job will produce.
• Keep component units and conversions with the work.
• Retain the operation that establishes finished output.
• Review the affected remainder when a technical change is needed.

Release a feasible job

Production Manager prepares the work order and its planned window. An independent Production Manager reviews and releases the technical scope, excluding the preparer and material editors. Finance Manager controls the reviewed standards and financial rate policy.

The release freezes the relevant recipe, routing, quantity and cost basis. Teams can inspect the instructions used for a particular assembly even after the product’s current master has changed. Actual starts and completions remain separate from the planned dates.

This supports a practical workshop schedule. Resource availability and the agreed work window require review; the selected scope does not promise an automatic plant scheduling service.

Move issued material into exclusive WIP

Components staged beside the workshop remain inventory. Actual issue consumes eligible traced stock and moves its quantity and carrying value into the work order’s WIP.

The original issue keeps the product, lot or serial where applicable, quantity and cost basis. Subsequent component consumption uses that WIP source. It does not take the same quantity out of warehouse inventory a second time.

Unused material can return from the remaining unconsumed, unreserved issue quantity. The return creates a new stock layer at the original issue basis and credits that WIP source. Material already consumed in an assembly remains attached to the work that used it.

Connect finished stock to the job

Completed assemblies remain inventory until their actual project use or eligible customer shipment. Moving them to owned site storage changes location while preserving their carrying value.

Project consumption records the finished material cost once. A managerial view may attribute the related production variance to the project through an explicit reconciliation. The original financial variance is preserved; attribution is not another expense or another receipt of the finished product.

This gives the project team a usable cost trail from the assembled item back to material and workshop effort without adding production WIP and finished consumption into the job total twice.

Close the work with its remaining obligations resolved

Partial completions consume only their allocated quantity and cost sources. Active material, output and return claims reduce the scope another action can use.

Independent Production Manager approves quantity closure and remaining production obligations. Finance Manager additionally approves unresolved financial residuals. Prior completion variances stay in their original postings; closing the work cannot charge them again.
